Back in 2011, I have never heard about this hidden secret ring chest. This was released on the PS3, Xbox 360, Steam, and Nintendo 3DS. So in the handheld console history of Sonic, it all started on the Sega Game Gear that created some portable versions of the main console games themselves and some original titles like Sonic Chaos and Sonic Triple Trouble. Next there is a forgotten Neo Geo Pocket handheld device that created the first ever Sonic game to be made by Dimps, Sonic Pocket Adventure. Then there is the Sonic Advance trilogy that were released on the Gameboy Advance and the Sonic Rush trilogy that were released on the Nintendo DS. So after making the DS port of Sonic Colors as a third Sonic Rush game, they decided to make Sonic games for the Nintendo 3DS, an advanced version of the DS that has stereoscopic 3D visuals, a circle pad, motion controls, amiibo support, a black signaler that can detect either NFC readers for amiibo or portals for Skylanders. So now Dimps decided to make a portable port for Generations and their first ever 3DS game, will this be a portable celebration of Sonic's 20th anniversary? Or will this become as bad as the Sonic 1991 Gameboy Advance port?
Let's spin dash.

Picture this, you are playing Sonic Unleashed, but with a surprising mixture of Epic Mickey and Kingdom Hearts, and a bit of Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse and Shrek Forever After elements, then you have this game. So we start with an immediate classic level for Sonic in 1991 until we jump forward to Sonic's birthday having a good time with his friends. However, a mysterious Time Eater show up to eliminate time and capture his friends so not only Sonic gets to go all past and present stages to rescue his friends and collect the chaos emeralds, but he also gets to team up with his golden-aged fate of his life so they can restore time in each adventure. Oh my gosh, that has to be the best story ever told from Sega! Here are the three main cores of how the story definitely works. Number one, the writing. It shows that an anniversary adventure like that can be as good as what the old Sonic games are meant to be. Number two, the execution. The entire gameplay is just the entire stages that you have been there before and it's good that they are all updated, not to mention that we get to have really fun challenges and and the concept art of every Sonic game. Number three, the ending. The ending is so amazing, it shows that younger Sonic can have his boost formula someday, and I really like Sonic's final quote "Hey, enjoy your future, it's gonna be great!". It's okay to dislike Sonic whether he has a horrendous 2006 game and having third party games on the Wii, and it's okay if technically his future is going to be bad, he will still enjoy his adventure anyway throughout the years. Now that's maturity, even though the game itself is rated E for everyone. So a lot of other Sonic stories for his games are pretty cheesy and just simple, but as for this one, ...oh gosh, that's VERY professional!

WOW! I mean, WOOOOOW! This really has the best animation in game industry! Well...in 3DS standards. The console version has high definition and a very crisp HD look. The 3DS version on the other hand, it's not on high definition and does not have a crisp HD look, it's on low definition and had a blurry poly-3DS look, and I like it. Much like the console version, the 3DS version of the animation looks stunning. Unlike Advance, Rush, and Colors DS, Generations 3DS seems to have a really big full 3D boost and has a stereoscopic effect when looking at it. The character design looks simple, yep very fluidal, expressional, and cartoony that shows what how the Sonic characters represent when people know what they do. The best-est part of the animation would have to be backgrounds. That melted my heart away and blew up my mind. All of the stages look so much bigger this time and really good to explore some day. Well...a little smaller than the console version since they are trying to cut the budget, but it's fine. Thanks to 3D animation, the updated look of the rigged recycled stages with the same exact obstacles and platforming are a slap, especially Classic Sonic's stages. Also, the details look blurry and so PNG-looking yet well-made. It feels like that you are in the world of Sonic. The animation is so good, that this should be at the museum.

The characters are all memorable. Starting with Sonic himself, instead of being a dumb showoff like always, he seems like he is now one of those people that are starting to realize that they should redo what they used to do, back when the world makes sense. Also, he's more of a definite version of Sonic Adventure's Sonic. Tails is the genius and friend of Sonic that helps him to get commotion to restore time once and for all. My favorite character would have to be Dr. Eggman. Thanks to the voice of Mike Pollock, HE'S FUNNY AS HECK! XD

Oh yeah, let's not forget Sonic's golden-aged fate Classic Sonic. How do I freaking like this adorable Genesis master? He's just like Mickey Mouse, but quieter and spikier. Like I said, they are all memorable.

The soundtrack has to be my favorite part of the game. Not only do they update the stage songs, they also remaster every theme there is. From both Classic and Modern, they both have their own music tone touches. For Classic, all of the stage themes sound both remastered and Genesis-sised. For Modern, all of the stages themes sound both radical and orchestrated.
Let me tell you all of it's stages from 1991 to 2010.
First we have the Genesis era where we have the popular Green Hill, the nighttime colorfulness of Casino Night, and the forest wonders of Mushroom Hill.
Second, we have the Dreamcast era where we have the beautiful beach of Emerald Coast and the bridge advertising Shadow stage of Radical Highway.
Third, we have the Handheld era where we have the fun water fest of Water Palace and the intergalactic hotel location of Tropical Resort.
There's even themes for rivals and boss battles. The soundtrack is genius, deserved to be listen to over and over again, and deserved to be on the radio station. It's that good of a soundtrack.

From all of these years of playing the Sonic franchise, my character arc has come to an end...I agree with everyone, this is the best-est handheld Sonic game ever! Sonic Generations 3DS is a massive success that brings back how good Sonic was and gives him a great anniversary event. The story is well-written, the animation is phenomenal, the characters are memorable, and it has the best soundtrack out of all Sonic games. So Generations 3DS is not just the best-est game of 2011, it's also the best 3DS game of all time. For my recommendation, this is an absolute must-play for all classic and modern fans of Sonic. You know what this deserves? A sequel. As for my rating, this one's very rare to find in games, but screw it I'm gonna say it. I will give it an INFINITE out of 10, and that ranking is of course the S rank.
Sonic is back with his younger-self, and they are both ready to make this game a beyond masterpiece.
