Description I am back on making video game reactions again, this is looking good.
Sonic has been one of the greatest video game characters in 31 years, he has so many cool adventures and popularity. Last year for Sonic's 30th anniversary, we got Sonic Colors Ultimate and it was way better than the original. Sharp visuals, new wisps, new content, customization, more lighting, and basically new content. So Colors Ultimate is basically the Super Mario 64 DS of Sega where the old 3D games turn into a brand new thing again. Now a year later today, Sonic hits his 31st anniversary, and the main focus for this year's games are Sonic Origins and Sonic Frontiers. Right now I have owned this game on digital along with it's downloadable content, and I have finished beating all four games in one day because I am a Sonic veteran.
Now wait a minute, Sonic already has his mega collection before back when it was released on the PS2, how can this collection possibly work this time? Well let's take a look.
The game opens with an animated intro just like Mania, looks awesome. And then you enter the menu where there is a map full of islands for the extras and the main four main games themselves. For the downloadable content, you can listen to classic songs and music whatever you want, and you can take a good closer look at the 3D characters at each island that some are made new while some are reused models and animations from Generations and Forces. Much like Colors Ultimate, each classic Sonic game doesn't have a livestock and you have to collect the coins to unlock some stuff. Even all the classic games have a new intro and outro cutscenes that are animated by the same people who animated the Sonic Mania cutscenes. In case if that isn't enough, you can play as multiple characters in each game whatever you want.
So the main four games that have been brought back to life are Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, CD, and 3 & Knuckles. Somehow the game decided to make CD be ahead of 2 because I have heard that CD was actually the true sequel of the first one in Japan, I mean, we all know that the sequel we know came out a year after the first in America, and the CD we all know came out another year after the sequel on Genesis, so Japan has a weird timeline twist to the franchise, but all well.
There is also a mission mode where you do all the missions while there is a museum full of songs, pictures, and clips.
What that means said, let's take a look at all four Sonic games in general.
The first one that started it all shows the origin of how Sonic became a hero in the first place. So he saved a lot of animals that are stuffed in every badnik that Robotnik has made, and he collected all the chaos emeralds. So he defeated Robotnik but didn't turn super yet until the sequel.
On the road to CD where we get first introduced by Amy, Sonic's love interest, and Metal Sonic, Sonic's true original rival in his hands. So Sonic himself goes to Little Planet to save Amy from Metal Sonic, and of course defeat Robotnik while collecting the time stones and destroy the leftover time capsules from past time. Apparently, you can still change it's foreign music if you wanted to. It's your choice to listen to the Japanese version where the music sounds exciting yet have a little funk put into it, or the American version where the music sounds generic yet the boss and game over music gives you the Sonic.EXE heeby jeepies.
The second one introduced Tails, Sonic's new best friend that can fly. They both work together to save the animals again, but this time, Robotnik has built his own Star Wars parody of the Death Star, the Death Egg. So they collected the chaos emeralds again, but this time, Sonic actually turns super now, so he has defeated him and his Death Egg Robot. The next thing you know, the Death Egg has been crash landed to Angel Island. Speaking of which...
The third one (& KNUCKLES, haha, funny, it's a meme) introduces Sonic's another rival Knuckles, guardian of the master emerald, has been lied by Robotnik thinking that Sonic and Tails are the bad guys but in reality they aren't. While Sonic is in his super form exploring the same island, Knuckles slammed the emeralds out of him and ran away as he keeps setting up a trap for them in each stage. Once Sonic defeated Knuckles, Robotnik tricked him and steals the master emerald without Knuckles' permission, so all three are after him inside the Death Egg. Once Sonic turns either super or hyper, he defeats him and destroys the Death Egg again as they returned the master emerald back to Angel Island where it floats again now. A lot of people are complaining "Why isn't there Michael Jackson music in this and why does the new themes sound so bad", let me answer for you. So Sega never credited Michael Jackson to make theme music for some stages, so they have to exclude his songs for either copyright or they just don't like him. The so called "new themes" for some stages aren't actually new, they were originally made from the prototype and old PC version of Sonic 3 which sounded very different.

I'd say I should make a comparison, shall I?
So here are the three stage themes that are done by Michael Jackson.

Ice Cap - www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZuGMw…
Launch Base - www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2_xx1…

It is agreeable that they sound completely different, but that doesn't mean it is a bad thing.
The best part of this collection game is that it includes an animated ending where Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy team up together as they continue their adventures further on and more. It would be cooler if Classic Sonic actually grows up to be Modern Sonic and have the first cutscene of Sonic Adventure to be full 2D animated, like I said, it would be cooler.
Overall, Sonic Origins is fantastic. I feel like that this is 2017 all over again because back in 2017 they released Mania and Forces, and now in 2022, they released Origins and Frontiers. One fantastic 2D side scroll game and one 3D boost-fest game. For my recommendation, this is worth playing for the people who prefer the old games, they are all here in one big new content powerhouse.
For the people who are excited for Frontiers to be released later on this year, I'm...not so excited about it. I'm not gonna explain why now, but I will explain when it comes out.
Sonic sure has a blast from the past, and he will soon have more adventures coming.
I think Sonic himself says his best about this game.

Hey Sonic, enjoy your future, it's gonna be great! ~Sonic the Hedgehog
