Description "Bloody vines grow outs of its back; wood-like hands/feet; new member; Plant-based abilities...."
– Observation Notes by Charles~

Niveus-Automa , this is the Seedrian character that I've been working on for a few days. His Bio Sheet is still under wraps, but for the moment, have a couple of sketches of Balthasar, along with a sketchy colour scheme that I might change soon.

I've seen plenty of Seedrian characters, honestly, but it's surprisingly difficult to come across a male Seedrian within the Sonic fandom. So why not~ create a male Seedrian character based off a cryptobotanical creature by the name of Ya-te-veo . And yes, my interests in cryptic creatures strikes again!

Balthasar (Ya-te-veo) Β© Axe-Cell
Stealing is ill-advised, if you wish to avoid trouble.

I've already said this plenty of times: It's all right, friend~ ^v^
Yeah, you're the first to catch that 'feminine+masculine' appearance that Balthasar has, so congratulations to you, my friend~! It was intentional, seeing as how I like to add elegance to my characters, as you might've seen already. XD

If you know me well, you'd understand how much I love these supernatural creatures that have been reported around our planet, regardless of the era they appeared in. >vo We don't know much about them, and that is why I love them~

NO Niv. >:u No blood for you. //slapped

Told ya that it'll take me a while to develop him. c; Now to figure out the colour of his flower....

oh, i see that, yes v ov~Β there's always something "noble" about your characters, i don't know o;
may be the setting they're all placed in, may be your drawing style v u v

the mysterious is always fascinating, isn't it? u//v//u~~
yes. there's always this sense of curiosity these things leave you ; o;

DD': why not!? look at dis, a girl can't even have fun with blood. >:I

well, i'll be patient then~
mm, the colors you've showed so far aren't confirmed then?Β i wonder if ya-te-veos have flowers, too v ov
do you have rough lines for his personality, even? i can imagine him as kind of hostile/not the most outgoing person, but i don't really know anything.

Axe-Cell In reply to Niveus-Automa [2014-05-09 15:01:46 +0000 UTC]

The setting is based on current times, Niv. - u- It's probably just my drawing style~

Hello~? The mysterious is my main reason why I love trying new things out~ My curiosity just cannot be satiated~

What I meant is that Balt drains life force out of the things that he entangles with his blood red vines. But there is a chance that he can rip someone apart for the bloodbath.... c:

Too bad that the sketch of the ya-te-veo is a sketch. - n- I'll just imagine them to have pretty colours/patterns then~
Rough personality lines....
How's about "socially awkward, curious, naive, yet protective"?

!! oh god i'm sorry uwh
then it's your drawing style, indeed~

i understand that, man v//o//v nothing more to add to that!

now THAT's much betterΒ βŠ™β–½βŠ™!Β wow im horrible hahahah

ah, i see then v -v
there isn't much to take from the pictures of the tree itself, i admit. but you'll come up with something, i'm sure > v >
hm. sounds nice~
i usually tend to start having an impression of a character by how the face and body communicate in the picture; so i automatically thought of him as the more nonchalant kind of character - o-
let's see. would you imagine him smiling often? how much would eventual sadness and worry show around people? the first expressions you would associate with him? that's what i ( subconsciously ) ask myself when i make up and develop characters v ov
i see what fits, or what i need for the story, and then it's like everything fits into place by itself!

also how about my hand slipped //

No need to be, Niv. - u- It's all good, considering that the same can be said for your amazing drawing style~

Hmm.... your questions have certainly got me thinking about his personality. Aside from asking myself questions about how my character(s) would react in a certain situation, I also 'get into their heads', in a sense, to try to think from their point of view regarding their decisions and how they get stuff done in their everyday lives.
Though I must admit, nonchalant certainly describes Balthasar quite well. > vo

Oh you. >:u

ghgh hdjhgfsstopffh<33

hmhm, that's the way i do it when i've already asked myself the questions i listed before, too.
i also imagine the "perfect poses" for them. if i draw a pose, i already know what characters fit into it.
again, i base myself on aesthetics and body communication rather than more accurate descriptions of their personality, behavior and choices. maybe because the impact is more immediate and keeps my memory clean on each of my characters when i've already drawn them.
i occasionally fill in a bunch of OC Memes without posting them, just to experiment v ov
filling OC Memes lets you look deeper in their heads as you try to do, yes~
it does? good, then~

A male seedrian; one of the few fan characters I don't see often, another would be having a species as a cockatrice. Interesting~ c|
I wonder what important function does Balthasar's third eye (if that's what I believe it is) have...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Axe-Cell In reply to StR-Lite [2014-05-08 23:41:45 +0000 UTC]

I'm still surprised that not many have thought of a male Seedrian when the female Seedrian population is already insane.
Well, I'll just tell you right away that his third eye functions as an intimidation pattern. He already has the ability to drain the life out of those who come in contact with his vines, so that's more than enough abilities for him.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StR-Lite In reply to Axe-Cell [2014-05-09 00:57:25 +0000 UTC]

Their characters were based from Cosmo and the other females, so looking at the episodes from SonicX, Landar is the only male seen in their species.
He's gotta be unstoppable~ species of a man-eating tree would suit anyone who's a villain.

Axe-Cell In reply to StR-Lite [2014-05-09 01:08:59 +0000 UTC]

...... I am so adding SonicX to my "To Watch A.S.A.P." list. I didn't know that there were other Seedrians in the anime at all!
I'm gonna have to pop your little bubble and inform you that Balthasar here is no villain. I mean, sure, he sounds evil with dem vines that can sap the life out of his entangled targets, but it's his only way to sustain his own life. It's not like he has a digestive system like how animals would have.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StR-Lite In reply to Axe-Cell [2014-05-09 02:06:58 +0000 UTC]

You mean you never watched SonicX before?!
Well, that could explain the result of his third eye on his stomach. C: So I guess he's more considered as neutral then.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Axe-Cell In reply to StR-Lite [2014-05-09 02:17:14 +0000 UTC]

I've only watched the first few episodes of SonicX. After that... well, I kinda forgot to watch it in the midst of studying and researching and having fun with my friends.
It's to keep the predators away from him. You know, like how some real-life animals do, except that he's a plant? XD
If you take a look at my cast of characters, you'd notice that they're a bunch of goodies and baddies put together under one roof.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StR-Lite In reply to Axe-Cell [2014-05-09 13:54:13 +0000 UTC]

Pffft~ you should watch them right now so you can get the idea who the other seedrians are. They appear around the second season of SonicX.
Right, makes sense. c| From what I searched through internet, I don't see as many seedrians having a trait or ability for self-defense, other than final transformations.
You've created so many characters!
About that, I always wonder if I should make another character. But almost every time I made a creation of one, I lose interest and abandon them.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Axe-Cell In reply to StR-Lite [2014-05-09 14:03:50 +0000 UTC]

Alright. c: Thank you for telling me which season to keep an eye out for those Seedrians, friend~
I don't really fancy the idea of final transformations that can make a character over-powered. XD I mean, sure, Sonic does that in every game, but I'd rather have a couple of characters with biological defences rather than magical.

I have a number of fan characters, but that doesn't mean that I have to give them attention all the time. c; Sometimes it's best to work on a character for a while... before you move onto another so that you can 'take a break' from developing one of your characters. It's impossible to perfect these characters, so the fun never ends so as long as you keep them growing by your side.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StR-Lite In reply to Axe-Cell [2014-05-10 15:22:06 +0000 UTC]

No problem, buddy~
Biological over magical, huh? xD Or is it because that transformations are... a bit overused?
Hmm... probably~ 'Right, I'll take your advice and see how it goes. c|

Axe-Cell In reply to StR-Lite [2014-05-10 23:09:48 +0000 UTC]

It's the transformations that are overused. |D Thanks to a game series by the name of Monster Hunter, I have come to like biological abilities as much as magical abilities~
In that case, have fun, my friend. ^^ I seem to recall that you'd a couple of characters... or was that just my imagination?

*Google searches,jawdrops 5 minutes later*
Woah, I can actually see that~ |D ... I just... so many dragons~ I favor them too much~ ;^;
I actually do have a few, but I was planning to sell them as adaptables and maybe reuse them completely as an entirely different character, I do that oftenly to all my characters, but nowadays I keep on losing my creativity.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Axe-Cell In reply to StR-Lite [2014-05-11 03:19:41 +0000 UTC]

You have no idea how much fun I had with my siblings whenever we hunt those dragons and wyverns and piscines and leviathans. XD
You mean like scrapping recycling the ideas that you've put into them so that you can put them together again to create a completely different character? I've done that to some of my characters, though... what do you mean by "...I keep on losing my creativity..."?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StR-Lite In reply to Axe-Cell [2014-05-11 05:20:34 +0000 UTC]

Aw c'mon, leviathans, too? I'm so darn jealous of you~ :U Fighting fantasy RPGS have always been one of my favorite game genres; second would've been shoot 'em up, or in other words.. bullet hell!
Exactly, but I only do that if I have a feeling they need a redesign. |D
Well, maybe 'lacking creativity' isn't the right word, but whenever a character is created it seems so vague to me, and I'm not satisfied with it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Axe-Cell In reply to StR-Lite [2014-05-11 05:33:32 +0000 UTC]

Hey, Monster Hunter ain't your average Fighting Fantasy RPG. A lot of timing must go into the offence, and defence is just as important as staying alive. :u It's also about weapon preference and how well you can do with them without becoming lunch.
Oh hell yes! Bullet hell for the win! You played R-type? //slapped

Shouldn't the vagueness of your character be the driving force for your imagination to put some effort into this character? You know, like developing them into a certain role that you have assigned for them? It takes time to develop and eventually like the character, after all. Like how I did with my bunch.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StR-Lite In reply to Axe-Cell [2014-05-11 21:35:08 +0000 UTC]

Fighting strategically, you say~? |D
I've heard of R-type before, but I haven't played it... yet.
Isn't what the reviewers describe the game as notorious for its difficulty?
Exactly~ D But that's usually a hard thing, when you ran out of ideas to make them unique. However, it does take a while to create one, so I agree. c:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Axe-Cell In reply to StR-Lite [2014-05-11 23:09:27 +0000 UTC]

Seeing as there's no such thing as an experience system in this game, your best ally is timing all the way. ;D
You have no idea what Bullet Hell truly is unless you've played through R-type. I would recommend that you play R-Type: Final, as that was the swan song of the shoot-em-up series made by Irem.

I'd call it a miracle if someone can come up with a character that is completely unique. Just don't the time that you require to improve and modify them over time, along with a wide array of knowledge in different fields (not necessarily meaning that you have to master some of them).

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StR-Lite In reply to Axe-Cell [2014-05-12 03:50:32 +0000 UTC]

Their swan song of the series? Huh..... well, I'm glad there's an android version. Or... *comes across something interesting in google search* ... Tactics II: Operation Bitter Chocolate?! 8D
For me I would be surprised, coming across a character with distinctive traits I wouldn't see everyday such as their appearance and its skills or abilities. Alright, another advice taken~ |D

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Axe-Cell In reply to StR-Lite [2014-05-12 05:21:00 +0000 UTC]

That's strategy, friend. XD Not a shoot-em-up like how Final was.
It would be like finding a diamond amongst a wagon load of coal. And when I do come across a character that I find rather unique, I'd watch the artist who created the character. And yes, I do take into consideration of the character's abilities and personality, as well as design.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StR-Lite In reply to Axe-Cell [2014-05-13 02:18:57 +0000 UTC]

Aw, dang it.... xD Still looks addictive like the other games I've played in the past recent years, though!
And that's what makes character creations fun~ you get to look at other's characters and be fascinated by their statistics and physical traits.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Axe-Cell In reply to StR-Lite [2014-05-13 02:39:50 +0000 UTC]

I haven't given Operation: Bitter Chocolate a go yet, but then again, I like to play tactical games, regardless if I have to take turns or not. c:
And then we have to be careful to NOT create a character that is too similar to those we've seen. Don't want anyone to be finding similarities in appearance, personality and abilities between our characters and their characters now, eh?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StR-Lite In reply to Axe-Cell [2014-05-13 06:21:07 +0000 UTC]

I've heard it's the recent r-type game before Irem launched app versions, isn't it?
Honestly never happened to me before, but I have a darn feeling that might've occurred to a few people, probably~ It could be a good start to make one just to give you ideas, but you just gotta make sure you don't get too carried away in adding multiple features from a particular character, to yours~ uvu

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Axe-Cell In reply to StR-Lite [2014-05-13 08:06:21 +0000 UTC]

That is true, my friend, but it isn't a shoot em up like how it's previous titles were (Tactics excluded). Though I'm not entirely sure about the 'making apps'. Last that I heard about this company, they were making slot machines.

I know that feeling way before I'd even made an account on dA. Honestly though, it has never happened to me before, so... I'm not entirely sure if I'll stumble across a character similar to one of mine. Most likely, I would just watch the artist and try to befriend him/her for the fun of it. Similarities can happen, so as long as its not too much to the point of ripping off.
