Yeah, this is a little exercise I decided to do to try and get some facial variety in how I draw people. The point is to be able to tell the difference between characters just based on their facial structure/features, meaning no hair and clothing. I suppose I did alright, but I'm still going to be working on it. My goal is to have an easily identifiable silhouette for every character I draw (meaning I'll be doing full bodies at some point, ohmai).See if you can identify the characters! I'll post the answers a little ways below.
From left to right with identifying features labeled.
Rui Amsel
- Sharp nose
- Thin face
- Pointed chin
- Attached earlobe
- Thin eyebrows
- Thin lips
- Dark eyelids
Cain Facias
- Smooth, slightly rounded nose
- Thinnish eyebrows
- Slightly pronounced chin
- Bored expression
Archie Asterton
- Square face
- Pronounced chin
- Cleft chin
- Bruised nose bridge
- Childish eyes
- Thick eyebrows
- Broad nose
- Sideburnssssss
Jemilie Varso
- Thin, narrow eyes
- Thin mouth
- Thin eyebrows
- Smooth face
Katie Yue
- Round, childish face
- Large eyes
- Small, round nose
- Thin eyebrows
- Halfmoon glasses
Lune Acier
- Dark, sunken eyes (insomnia caused)
- Sharp nose
- Thin eyebrows
- Sharp chin
- Square glasses
Some characters were really easy to pick out defining features, others no so much. This is an exercise I really encourage everyone to do if they get a chance, seeing it helps develop character variety.
If anyone who sees this that is in the IPL (whether I drew your character or not), please give me some idea of your character's defining characteristics! Will help me a lot in making them easily identifiable when I draw them, especially seeing sometimes it's hard for me to pick out what defines them in other styles.

Neato'! Great job on differentiating the faces of the ladies, it's usually much harder then men faces. Speaking of which, I really like how you did Archie! <3

Thanks! =3 And yeah, it is xD Unless they have dramatically different builds it's like "....I can only alter the typical oval face and eyes so many ways. Fffffff". Unfortunately a lot of the IPL ladies seem to have roughly the same build xD I'm glad I succeeded to some degree though! =3

i totally didn't recognize cain at first without his dumb hair and annoying-to-draw hat, but he looks awesome! um um the only thing i would say is another defining trait is that i would maybe draw his face a little rounder. obviously that's hard to tell from my dumb generic animu style but in my mind, he's a little shorter and stockier than most of my characters. he looks awesome though, your style is really different and cool.
all the characters look so neat in your style! they all look so perfect! i recognized almost all of them except the last one who i don't know anyway, so it'd be hard for me to recognize him anyway, lol. i love how you could so easily show their different face shapes and still make it look clearly like your style.

Ah, okay =3 I'll remember that then. Seeing I'll be splashing against him in the future it'll definitely be good to know! xD
And I'll admit that it was actually rather difficult to translate different face shapes into my style initially. I'm very prone to default to the generic slim, oval face, so a lot of them end up looking like that. It's something I'm really trying to fix xD After I get people down I'm going to work on the pokemon as well, try to give them all different builds and the like so they'd be identifiable even if their markings/accessories were stripped xD

i know what you mean. i want to get better at actually doing faces that GASP don't all look exactly the same! it's a rather foreign concept to me still orz
that's awesome! i like that idea. in the natural world not all animals have the exact same color scheme/body shape, so i'm interested in seeing what you do with them! even with that little pile of mightyena doodles you did they all were very clearly different pokemon. your drawings are very good with getting personality down pat~!

I squee'd when I saw Lune in the bottom corner. It threw me off for a fraction of a second cuz I didn't see his hair but I recognized him almost instantly.
