Description
A pair of M105s on display in the deployed and towed position with a few 105mm rounds beside it, circa 2551. These particular models belongs to the UNSC's 8th Mountain Division, based out of Concord. A popular artillery piece for units more adept in asymmetrical warfare such as Airborne, Rangers, and Special Forces units, or various Colonial Guard Rifle and Militia units, the M105 is designed to be a lightweight, cheap, and easily transportable piece to help provide artillery support for units that do not have air or orbital support available or cannot call in the more widely used self-propelled artillery used by the largely mechanized UNSC due to terrain. Easily towable by a warthog or a razorback or deployable by dropship, the M105 can be quickly deployed for fire missions in as little as 1 minute, or packed up for a quick retreat just as fast. (Though some crews boldly claim they can do it in 40 seconds.) The M105 served faithfully throughout the Inner Colony Wars, the Insurrection, and the Human-Covenant War, providing badly needed support in countless engagements where heavier ordinance was unavailable for UNSC forces. In the post-war era, the M105 continues to see widespread use by numerous armies due to its cheap cost, ease of maintenance, and mobility. Despite this, the M105 is quite possibly going to be the last in a long lineage of towed artillery pieces due to the UNSC Procurement Department seeing them as an outdated waste of resources when more prevalent artillery and missile delivery systems have become more widespread in use and availability. So far, however, no official decision has been made.

And here we have M105 from Rtazalvaro. Wanted to give the UNSC a legacy piece of equipment from the days before the Human-Covenant War that many would see as outdated, and I figured a towed-artillery piece in the 26th century was a perfect fit. We used both the OTO-Melara Mod 56 and the M119 Howitzer as the primary inspirations for the design, given how small both are and how a small easily transportable howitzer was what we were going for. Overall Rtaz did a great job. Big thanks to him.
