History

Floyd was born into a fairly well to do lifestyle, her father having just begun what would become a very successful career, and her mother being a very attentive and kind young woman. She spent the first three years of her life living in relative peace and happiness, surrounded by family and friends, and spending a great deal of time with her sisters, despite the age gaps between them. Floyd had a very happy lifestyle, surrounded by people she loved and cared a great deal for. However, Floyd was soon forced to leave her peaceful home due to a transfer for her Fathers work, being a military officer, that would send her halfway across the world. It was then that the family moved to Japan, as her father had just been moved to become the Executive Officer of one of the battalions within the USFJ, or then United States Forces Japan.

Floyd was forced to completely readjust to life after this move, and caused her to become somewhat withdrawn due to the sudden cultural change. She became a rather distant child, but always wished to help better others’ lives, as her kindness remained hidden behind her dismissive attitude. Despite being rather shy, she always tried to go out of her way to help who she could, and many good memories with people in the process, be them with her fellow students or even adults around the town.

Floyd spent a great deal of time volunteering when she could in order to further help others where she could. She also developed a good sense of reading people, after seeing such a wide variety as her travels permitted. She always loved to see how different people handled different situations, and often enjoyed simply observing others when she could. It was also during this time that Floyd met Sousuke Yamazaki and Rin Matsuoka while attending school. While they were never the best of friends at first, a clear spark was there between them, and they often spent a great deal of time together while in school, being able to relate to one another on multiple occasions. They soon became very close friends who enjoyed each others company. It was a friendship that brought some light to Floyd's chaotic life.

However, despite the family wishing for the best of times, things only got worse from that point. Due to the nature of his work, Floyd's Father was rarely around for more than a few minutes at a time. This never stopped Floyd from looking up to him, however, and viewing him as a great father who always did his best to give his family a good home. Despite this, as Floyd's father climbed the ranks of the military, his family slipped farther from his grasp. Floyd often found solace her the silence of only her own presence, something that also gave her time to work more on her studies and various other projects, allowing her to become a very crafty young woman, even if she soon became very reclusive and a woman who rarely talked. This gave her a great deal of time to focus on her studies, allowing her to become an exemplary student, much to her enjoyment.

Soon, things would reach a peak that was unavoidable: war had called Floyd's father away to another part of the world, giving him the chance to send his daughter back to the states to stay with Family. Things began to look up for a change Floyd finally being near her family again put in in a more comfortable position, and she was happy to have some people to communicate with outside of her little ring of fire. However, times had changed over the years, and Floyd barely knew who her family was anymore. It was harder for her to communicate with them, and she felt the extreme distance between them that had grown. Despite this, Floyd tried her absolute best to do everything she could to maintain good relations with her family. Floyd had great relationships with her sisters, Ana and Sarah, and loved her mother a great deal. This didn't mean she got along with everyone though. Things did begun to look up, however, after Floyd again met her cousin after many years, and who would become her long time best friend: Kei, through whom she would also connected with another cousin and Kei's younger sister, Lori. The three girls had a bond that was not easily broken, doing everything together and never leaving each other behind. They were practically sisters, but none more than Floyd and Kei. The two of them had a serious bond with one another, considering each other the most important people in each other’s lives, and almost never without one another. It was with these two that Floyd felt most calm, and for once in her life, at peace. They had many a great time together, be it in school, around town, or simply doing something that would otherwise appear stupid to everyone else.

Unfortunately, things were not to remain simple in her life. During a school trip to the beach, Floyd was caught in a current and dragged out and under the water. Disoriented, she was unable to find her way back up to the surface, and blacked out. When she came to, she saw the familiar faces of her classmates, and was relieved, but remained in shock. Floyd survived the incident with no serious physical damage, but with a fair emotional toll. An event like that really makes you look twice at the world. She was never really the same after that, accompanying her initial (and rational) distrust of people came a sever fear of the open water, and a distrust of any bodies of water. Floyd was scared. She missed home, or what she considered home. Finally, wanting nothing more than for his daughter to feel safe, her father had taken it upon himself to bring his daughter some comfort and to help her relax once more.

After becoming Commanding Officer of his battalion in the USFJ, he had decided to send his daughter and her two closest friends to school overseas on an exchange program, arranging school and housing for them in Japan, as well as occasional supervision from remaining friends in the USFJ, as well as Kei and Lori's sister, well aware of just how much Floyd missed her previous home. Floyd was of course excited for this opportunity, but at the same time feared moving to a place she had been long away from with almost no support right where she needed it, other than her two friends since her father was still at war. The fact the ocean was so close to where they would be didn't exactly help her either, but she still went along with it. Completely unaware of what was waiting for them overseas, the trio set out for the Country of Japan to continue their schooling and path to adulthood. She currently lives with her dog and a friend of her family, while Lori and Kei live in a house not too far down with Kei and Lori's elder sister.

Free! Iwatobi Swim Club

After their move back to Japan, Floyd and her cousins are forced to readjust to a life that seemed to have become foreign to them. Stanger’s to everyone save for Lori and Kei’s sister, Ikumi, and Floyd’s caregiver, Eriko, a JSDF Soldier and a close friend of Floyd’s parents. Things do start to look up, however, after a chance encounter with Makoto leads the girls to socializing with members of the Swim Club, eventually leading to their joining of said club, much to Floyd’s frustration. Floyd also runs into old friend Kiyomi, whom she practically grew up with before leaving without a word. With help of her friends, both new and old, Floyd aims to one day be able to conquer her fears, effectively regaining her confidence and cheer she had so long ago.

Free! Eternal Summer

Having managed to survive her first year in Iwatobi, and forming bonds she knew would last a lifetime, Floyd is happily making progress with the help of friends, and is once again able to enjoy the water and the joys of swimming with friends in a way she never knew possible. Unfortunately, with the conclusion of her High School years comes another issue that several of her friends also face: what exactly does she want with her life? Floyd’s issue is of a different caliber, however, as she is also forced to face the realization that she will soon be forced to leave her friend behind to return home. Watching as bonds are tested, Floyd is forced to watch as friendships struggle, and as the inevitable countdown forces a decision, as she struggles to decide who she is, and where she belongs.

Free! Take Your Marks

With the help of her friends, her father, and her heritage, Floyd has successfully applied for dual citizenship, and is able to remain in Japan with her friends. Life isn’t about to slow down, however, as Tokyo has called in the form of University as Floyd begins attending classes alongside her friends. Studying to become a Family Councilor, specifically within military family counseling (also taking on a civilian job within the FAC 3004 Office in Tokyo), to help people when they need it most, much like the help she needed, Floyd is ready for the next few years of her life to begin. But is anything ever that easy?

Personality

Raised by way of travel, war, and constant stress, it isn’t a surprise to many that Floyd first came off as a fairly reserved and detached sort of person. Despite the experience she has gained by traveling her entire life, it has made forming solid relationships difficult, and it is because of this that Floyd often finds it better not to bother with attachments if she can avoid it, simply to save herself the pain of having to say goodbye once more. It should be noted that Floyd is not exactly aloof, however, as it is very obvious that she does care for those around her a great deal, and goes out of her way to help others more so than not, even if subconsciously. She is very kind to those she speaks too, not matter if they’re a friend or a stranger, and treats everyone with the same degree of kindness. Rather, it is the fear of hurting others that disallows her to let them close. In a way, she is emotionally volatile, and fairly shy because of it. She doesn’t exactly do super well in social situations, and generally enjoys her space because of it. This, combined with her initial quiet nature can make her seem cold and uninterested in those around her.

As she begins to open up to others, however, it is easy to see that Floyd is a compassionate, warm hearted and loyal friend to those who do manage to hold her close. As her fears of attachment melt away, a much more talkative and cheerful woman seems to spring from the ashes of her discomfort. She will become much more passionate when she speaks and noticeably happier once she feels safe enough open up to others. Floyd holds her friends and companions in the highest of importance, and considers those she lets in family, willing to do anything to see them grow and to make sure they’re safe. She encourages others to speak to her if they’re having issues, and is always willing to lend a shoulder to cry on should one be needed. Due to this, she generally tries to be very honest with others, especially those close to her, but can often come off as somewhat blunt, and not always in a good way. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind, to friend or foe alike, and her straightforwardness on such things can sometimes land her in trouble, again, be it with friend or foe. Regardless, her intentions are usually for the best, and she can always be trusted to give a straight and honest answer when asked. She also has a somewhat sarcastic side, especially towards her friends, though this is usually something she has no control over, sometimes unable to hold her tongue once she gets going. She also never really seems to care what others think of her, despite how others may think it makes her feel.

Floyd does have her struggles even after opening up to others, however. She suffers a great deal from both depression and PTSD brought upon by past and even her livelihood. She often struggles with coping, and views her friends as her only true support system when dealing with them. Due to this, she often fears losing her friends, and will become rather reserved in attempts to not trouble them with her issues, despite their urgings that, if she should be there for them, then they should be there for her. She knows better than to think some of the things she does, but is unable to move forward because of her mental diseases, What Floyd doesn’t often realize, however, while others do, is exactly how strong and how determined she is as a person. Though she suffers from these ailments, she always finds a way to persist, for her sake, and for the sake of those around her, battling her fiercest enemy every step of the way: Herself. As time goes on Floyd begins to open up to become the person she was so long ago: happy and full of life, and especially more talkative.
