034 a Monster High Student

'So...what do we know?' asked Wally, laying on top of Dick's bed and happily munching on some snacks that Alfred left them. He honestly loved the ancient butler. His food was so good. And surprisingly calming. Any uneasy feelings flew out the window, when he ate the food that the man prepared. He made sure to compliment him whenever he saw him.

Dick didn't say anything back, as he sat at the edge of the very same bed, staring angrily at the whiteboard, as if his glare would force it to give him the answers he was looking for.
After the 'werewolves fiasco'- that Dick and Wally later decided to call 'day 0' - they were all hoping that things would get back to normal.
And for the first week it looked like it would.
Wally and others became more at ease when their injuries started to heal. The bruises and scratches were mostly gone by now, and the broken bones would take only a week or two more. They all would be ready to go on the next full moon.
Which brought up a question. Will it be safe?

Next time something happened, was on Day 8.
Everything was slowly getting back to normal. Well, as normal as it can get in a high school full of monsters.
And then, during the lunch, one girl started screaming.
Everyone's attention snapped to her, when she suddenly floated up clutching her head, and she started glowing bright.
It took Dick a second to recognize her - Kory, they had chemistry together - and figure out what her powers were - she was a creature of light. She could light up like the sun, but she didn't do it at school, because...she could...really hurt the vampires present at the time...
He quickly noted the whole cafeteria was actually filled with people of his kind.
He's pretty sure he wasn't the only one yelling 'get down!' at that moment.
He quickly dove for the ground, hearing all around him people doing the same.
Dick his his face in his arms and felt Wally curling in around him, to shield him more, just as bright light filled whole room.
He felt his ankles burning, the only place that wasn't covered. He was lucky that Wally was covering his head, or he might have burned his ears.
He winced at the screams that some of the other vampires let out.
It was all done quickly, as Kory managed to control herself, and she fell on the ground breathing heavily.
Dick winced, when Wally uncurled himself from around him, and he tried to stand.
His ankles were burned badly and he could not stand without his shoes digging into the tender skin.
Wally actually picked him up and placed him on the bench, before hobbling off to help other vampires, his cruthes forgotten, laying next to the table. Other monsters quickly followed his lead and started helping too.

A lot of vampires got serious burns on their faces, arms and legs. The smell of burnt flesh was terrible.
They were lucky that they healed very quickly.

Later it turned out that Kory lost control over her powers. She didn't know what she was doing.

Following days were - as Dick would put it - a disaster. Heavy on the dis.
The school had to lock the pool for the whole day, because the usually calm Loch Ness Monster almost ate two of the students who tried to go for a swim.
A group of ghouls completely wrecked the school's library.
One of the teachers almost attacked his students, during the class.
All zombies created a horde and almost wiped out the entire school.
Vampires started turning in the middle of the day and did a lot of damage to the school's ceilings.

The most noticable thing though, was that Dick didn't go crazy.
Every other monster in Gotham, except for Dick, Alfred and Bruce, lost control in some way or form.
That led to a lot of suspicions and mistrust towards them.
And it also drove Dick to try even harder to try to solve the mistery.

It was Day 16 when it happened.
Seeing as the day was extremely gloomy and there was no sign of it getting any nicer, Wally took Dick out for ice cream after school. He was worried about his friend. He seemed tired, even though vampires didn't really need sleep.
So he got Dick his favourite strawberry and blood sorbet.
Dick mentioned that he didn't actually eat anything local for some time now, seeing as all the food at the manor was imported from somewhere else.
They took a booth by the window, seeing as there was no risk of sun ruining their fun.
Dick was in the middle of teasing Wally about his huge portion of ice cream, when the redhead's breath hitched.
The brunette was about to smirk and say something about 'brain-freeze' when his friend pointed at his face and whispered
'dude. Your eyes are red.' He said worriedly.
Dick's eyes were usually blue, but they changed to red when he turned into his more beastly form.
He blinked at him surprized, before looking at the window, to use it as a mirror.
He stared bemused when he remembered that the vampires do not have reflections.

They quickly left the shop and went back to the manor, just to be safe.
Wally was too worried that Dick was going to loose control and change in the middle of the day and fly off somewhere, that he did not comment on the melting ice cream that they left behind.

And that led them to where they were now.
Laying around in Dick's bedroom, Day 17, trying to process everything that happened.
Wally had investigated the blood moon situation and actually explained to Dick, that it was a phenomenon called lunar eclipse, where the Earth gets beetween the Sun and the moon, causing the sun's red visible light to scatter, hence the bloody color of the moon itself.
It was rare, but it did happen before, a year earlied and apparently all werewolves - including Wally - had lived through that one without any trouble at all.
And even if it was bad for the werewolves, it had no reason to mess with all the other monsters.
So - as much as Dick didn't want to believe it - the moon had nothing to do with that at all.

The brunette had wrote down all the accident that had place during last 17 days.
He was sure there was a pattern, he just had to find it- aha!
' The caffeteria!' He yelled out, causing Wally to choke on his food.
'Wha-?'
'Most accidents happened during the lunch hour! No one lost control during the morning. Only after. It would be logical-'
'dude...'
Dick turned towards his friend. At first it looked like he would agree, but then it seemed like something dawned on him.
'...My Uncle lost control too during Day 0 though. And two days ago my Aunt Iris trashed the living room on accident, because she lost control over her powers. And they do not go to school, therefore couldn't eat at the cafeteria.' He said, his brows furrowing. ' And your eyes turned red and you don't even eat the school foo-' He paused then.
Their eyes met for a moment and they both got it then.
'It's the local food!' They exclaimed at the same time.
'Of course!' Dick started pacing though the room then, as everything became clearer.
'Me, Alfred and Bruce were the only ones not hit by this...sickness, because we import our food! The first time in months that I ate something local, was yesterday, those ice cream. And that's when my eyes changed colour!'
Wally pondered that for a moment.
'...So...why is the local food poisoned? And with what?' He asked, already getting up and reaching for his crutches, ready to head out. He needed to get some of that food and check it in his Uncle's lab. Maybe he could find a cure. Or at least something to eliminate that thing from the food, that was making them crazy.
Dick paused then.
'All food in Gotham comes from the same industry.' He noted the weirded out look on Wally's face and the question of 'how the hell do you even know that?!'
'Bruce has a company here after all. We have to know our allies and competitions.' brunette explained, searching for his glasses. 'The company responsible for the food supply in Gotham is Lex Corp.' He said finally.

'...Isn't that run by that Luthor dude? You think someone is trying to sabotage him? And why would someone want all of the monsters to lose control?' The red head glanced at him worriedly, when he didn't answer.
'...We have to tell Bruce.' Was what he decided to say after a while.

So they did.
