Despite his asocial nature, Chime is not shy about meeting new people and experiencing new things. It is not fear that keeps him from the outside world, but rather, a sense of quiet, strained sadness that lingers in his words and eyes. Chime is generous with his time and care for others, and would always put others' needs above his own. [BACKGROUND]
TL;DR: Chime left his ancient home in the Himalayas for Halcyon Elysium because the humans in the valley, who he considers his most treasured children, asked him to.

Dew drops and dripping water, like skyward tears, were the background symphony of Chime's life for a long, long time. He was born inside the crystal caverns of the heaven-splitting Himalayas, the home where he was shaped into a glistening, frosting dragon. Insects, bats, moss, and rain were his only companions, and he listened attentively to them and conversed with them. He parceled out territory disputes between earthworms, fostered sick patches of mosses back to health, and ruled over the cavern and surrounding mountain ranges as their father. It was a role that suited the gentle, clear-eyed Chime: he lived far longer than any of the creatures, yet treasured every individual like his most favored children.

And the same applied to the humans that first settled in the valley.

In the spring, Chime provided the small band of scavengers with glistening crystals, broken off of his own body, as a gesture of good will. In the summer, he provided them with melted ice water to quench their thirst. In the autumn, as other roaming humans encroached on the valley, Chime drove them away with glaring light and sleet storms. In the winter, as snow howled unrelentingly upon the land, Chime gave them respite in his own cave. He loved them, and day by day, learned to take on their physical form and speak their language. They, in turn, learned to trust the dragon's wisdom and guidance: The Everlasting, The Eternal, the humans called him. Chime.

As the humans' village turned into a city, then a kingdom that ruled over the trade routes crisscrossing the Himalayas, Chime kept his dutiful watch over them. Centuries passed, and Chime continued to send ice storms and jagged rocks after foreign invaders, shrouding his treasured humans from outside harm, until -

"The Everlasting, The Eternal."

"Yes, my most beloved sons and daughters?"

"Please leave us, for we do not desire your protection anymore. We desire things from the outside. Your crystals cannot heal our illnesses, light our houses at night, or guarantee jobs and income to our men. Your presence is doing us more harm than good."

And Chime was neither angered nor argumentative with his children, for they were his most loved beings on the earth. If they were better with his absence, then he should leave his home, the only home he had ever known, and travel elsewhere. Chime gathered the prayer flags he had accumulated over the years - gifts from his children - and tied them neatly to his horns. Then, he set out. No one left their homes to wave goodbye, and no one invited him to return and visit. He had become a liability.

Crack- a small shard of crystal fell from Chime's face, but the empty space left over never closed.

He set out for the land of Halcyon Elysium, a land he had only heard about, and one far, far away from his children.

● Chime's human body is made of crystal i.e. he clinks lightly when he walks, and if enough force is used, his limbs break as easily as normal crystals
● It's not uncommon for him to break off pieces of himself to give them as gifts to others. Since he regenerates relatively quickly, he doesn't seem to be bothered by it
