this originally started as a gigantamax steelix drawing but steelix's head was kinda annoying to draw so i decided i'd just make a regional variant of onix that adapted to a volcanic setting.

onix - the igneous snake pokémon - over time they dug deeper and deeper eventually reaching magma chambers and residing within there. those who could take it adapted to the high temperatures and had their body work around the igneous rock. despite how deep they tunnel they can only last so long in the surface, this is why they are very hard to come by under normal circumstances even in the deepest of caves.

volcanix - the magmadiver pokémon - the rock on their bodies has completely melted away, only leaving a tough glass-like obsidian shell on its dorsal side. they must constantly eat rocks in order to survive, favoring volcanic material since it is all that's around. the rock they eat is then converted into magma, which drips out of it slowly to be discarded and dried.
