Description There is a lake in the woods of Montana where the aspen trees grow, its water murky green with algae and the filtered light of the forest. By darkness the sky paints its ripples in hues of indigo and midnight.

I'd gone there for many a swim after chopping wood in the dry heat of summer or teaching long hours in the cramped, dusty schoolhouse in town. The water was always cool and refreshing.

Imagine my surprise when I came there with Ella, and dipping our feet beneath the surface we felt cool air against our toes.

I was reminded of figure-and-ground illusions by clever painters, and it seemed now that the blue of the reflected sky was an opening in the earth, a portal between worlds, and the green depths of the lake a ripple of water against a pool of sky. The aspen trees shivered in the breeze and we thought, "Why not--"

--And we jumped in, and through, and out again--

And now we're somewhere else.

Midnight blue wire in concentric patterns holds glass beads the mossy green of a forest lake. This pendant is For Sale and measures approximately 1.25 inches in length. It comes with a complementary ribbon, cord or chain pending availability.

Price: $13.50

SOLD.

Thank you!

Kyla

I love the colour contrast in this piece. The wire sets off those beads perfectly.

Thank you!  That blue wire is tough to work with (when the coating chips, it is so obvious), but produces some pretty spiffy colour combos.

Do you find that it's easier to work with the coloured smaller-gauge wire to accent for things like coils? Does the colour chip less?

I don't know, now you mention it.  I think the only coloured wire I've used in a smaller gauge is black and red.  The black coated stuff always seemed more durable for some reason.  The red it almost doesn't matter, since the contrast with the copper underneath is so low.  The blue and purple stuff is the worst though.  What's cool is you can deliberately scrape off the colour on wire to get nifty effects like this:    .  I haven't seen anyone else do that yet.

I've tried working with colour-coated wire for simple wire wrapping, and I just find that it... it peels. =/ But I have a bunch of smaller-gauge coloured wire from a Fiskars kit that I bought years ago, and I wonder if I might have better luck just accenting with it, instead.

As for deliberately scratching off the colour, that looks great. It really adds depth and dimension.

If you use colours like brown or red or other "warm" colours, you won't notice the scratching/peeling a fraction as much.  It's the cool colours that clash drastically with the copper tone underneath.

To do the scratching on purpose, I take a pliers for cutting and I run the sharp edge along the wire.  Strips the coating right off in a nice line.  And yes!  I think it's a bit like lazy oxidizing.  Not really of course, but it has a similar effect of giving something a look of depth and age.

You should upload some of your wrapping!

I should... it's not great, but I could put it in scraps.

yes, you should!  Hurry up and do it!  I want to see your wire work!

Don't worry about whether it's "great" or not.  Some people on here think some of my early stuff that I don't even think is all that good is amazing, and think my newer work is blah.  Let other people find beauty in your work, even if you don't yet

Favorite one ever. My two favorite colors and gorgeous swirls and loops? What more could I possibly want? Oh, right the mention of a hint of Narnia in the description. ^^ Amazing work, just like always.

I was -obsessed- with Narnia as a kid. Thank you for the lovely comment and the favourite!

Btw, I'm really glad you enjoyed the Lovecraft. Here's a link to -most- of his prose: www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/ . Enjoy!

DD Narnia was the best fantasy land ever. I loved it until I read "The Last Battle" and the ending stuck to me in Lewis's haunting, soft sort of finality and I never touched my favorites again. His characters and plot is so real, it actually hurts to read about the Pensives and Bree and Cor and Aravis and Diggory and the talking beasts and Mr. Tummnus and Aslan and the great war of it all when all of them, except for Susan, died. I know that Aslan lets them stay in Narnia forever but it's just so overwhelmingly nostalgic mixed in with the "what-could-have-beens"...Grawr. I only read "Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe" occasionally now and then I spent the rest of the day thinking about how the adventures ended. The last time I read the whole thing was probably four years ago. DX

Anyway, your totally welcome and Lovecraft was totally awesome. I will DEFINITELY being favoriting that link, thank you~!

You know, it's weird, I actually had forgotten all those people -died-, perhaps because I figured in a world where you can interpret the afterlife so literally, in a way it wasn't too important heheh, but yeah ... needing to re-read them now. My favourite was the Voyage of the Dawn Treader! And then The Horse and His Boy.

Now that makes me want to read Dawn Treader again simply because that was the one I least remember...like there's literally a huge blank under the folder labeled Book #4. But I'll have to put that off until I decide whether or not I want to go ahead and get Mein Kampf.

Yes, the Horse and His Boy was awesome! Partly because it had the Pensives when they were actually ruling Narnia and Archenland is my favorite kingdom there~ I also don't really like bringing the children from our world into Narnia. Except the Pensives, and my favorites were always Peter and Susan.

I thought of reading Mein Kampf at some point, then i figured I hate the guy so much I don't give a crap what he thought, haha; I feel like the stuff he did keeps me awake enough already, and I wasn't even there. And yes, re-read Dawn Treader! It was WIN. I loved Reepacheep (spelling?)

A teacher recommended it after I had a heated debate with someone over WWII dictatorships and he told me to read it then discuss it with him on my views about Hitler's style in and out of prison. I have no clue about the different translations, though, still totally wish you could read German~! ^^

Yep, that's how you spell the little guy's name. I loved him in Prince Caspian, the movie. Awesome dude.

I always forget he was introduced in book 2, gah! for some reason that's the one that's always a huge blank for me

Grawr, Caspian annoys me. He acts like it does'nt matter that the Pensives were once the greatest kings and queens in Narnia, he's all like "Well, that was thousands of years ago and I'm sorta going to be a REAl king next, so tough luck. You listen and obey me now." That Susan's horn you blew, which belonged to Susan! And you "summoned" them back to Narnia so they could save your hide, smart one. And Peter is High King, which means that he has authority over any king or queen Narnia will ever had, you little... *deep breath*

Anyway, Caspian's attitude made me annoyed at him for a very long time until he fell in love with Susan. Aslan should've let her stay.

yeah, he -was- pretty arrogant. I think I just liked his whole ridiculously ambitious quest to do something entirely crazy in book 3 hehe. Perhaps because when I read it I must've felt some sense of what I wanted to do with my life (the part with the ship, not the being a REAL king heheh).
