Love the Sonic. Can do without most of his little dooshy fans, though. I don't even waste my breath explaining what interpretation means to them. He HAS to look EXACTLY the way he is on a video game cover.
Or, I love this comment, "so-and-so draws him much better." Yeah, of course they draw him better, when so-and-so RESORTS to tracing and eyeballing existing work, you tool. You may as well admit you're a rabid fan of a damn photocopy machine. *eyeroll*

I personally dig this interpretation. To my eye it looks a bit like a great balance between the new, tries-so-hard-but-not-as-cool-as-the-original, and the Epic-Original design.
I'm all for evolution and appropriation, so I dig this a bunch ^__^

Well, the shoes look like the ones he used on Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for Gamecube. And they look great, so why'd people complain about it?

My wee one jumped up and down on the bed screaming, "It's SONIC! Gotta move faster!" Then ran around the house. I so want to run this through my HD printer and hang a print on the wall, the reaction was so intense.
Now you know why I rarely showed anyone but you my fan art. I did it to have fun, but the hateful folks kinda spoil it.

People hate originality and creativity, apparently. 8/ I got one of those too, saying "i ruin sonic". Bah. Fantards.

Sonic is an Icon no matter who draw it or how they draw it, it feels everyone affection on to this blue hedgehog. Point is, your drawing rocks! and if anyone wants to say it otherwise, it's just Envy.

Personally, I wish I could find a good picture of Sonic with those shoes...for some reason, I just always loved them. I know they are those grinding shoes, but you gotta know the poor guy gets tired...just grinds rails when he's tuckered out. :-D

The shoes actually remind me a lot me tie Sonic Adventure style shoes. Either way, you're right, people can get way too literal when it comes down to Sonic's design.

Sonic's look has changed far too many times for anyone to be critical. Take a look at Sonic 1 vs. Sonic Adventure vs. Sonic (insert inane game title here). I have been disappoint by almost every Sonic game made in the last ten years. I had high hopes for Sonic the Hedgehog on PS3, and was only marginally disappointed (and not by the werewolf part. That was fun!
