Description A view over Turin, taken from the Monte dei Cappuccini (Cappuccini 1 and Cappuccini 2 ).

Panorama pic, 30 shots (3 rows of 10 each), no tripod. Original size: 23408 x 3886 px.

Turin's area is surrounded by the Alpes. The triangular peak on the left, visible through the fog, is the Mount Viso (aka Monviso), where the river Po is born.
Halfway between the Mount Viso and the rooftop angle, the Olympic Arch (Turin - 7 ).
Below the Mount Viso, on the river's edge, the back side of the Castle of Valentino (White walls, red flags ) can be clearly seen. Following the river to the right, we meet Valentino and Valentina, the two boats that sail along the river: the trip is mainly a touristic attraction.
Above the boats, the peaks covered with snow locate the valley of Susa (White places ), where many of the 2006 Winter Olympics contests were held. Just below the snow line, the Sacra di San Michele (The Sacra ) is barely visible.
The banks of the river in the middle portion of the image are called Murazzi. It is Turin's groovy nights area, and it also where i took Night on the river from.
Following the river further to the right, we find Vittorio Emanuele I bridge. Turin - 8 was taken from there.
On the left of the bridge, there is Vittorio Veneto Square (aka Piazza Vittorio), the biggest square in Europe. The colored pavilions in the square were hosting the CioccolaTO happening: every year, in march, the best chocolate producers from Turin and the rest of Italy (but someone comes from Switzerland too) expose and sell their products, and show how they make them. Chocolate is an art, in Turin. By the way, Cioccolato is the italian word for Chocolate, and TO is Turin's acronym on car plates.
Behind the square, the Mole Antonelliana (Turin - 2 , Turin - 10 and Olympic fireworks ) dominates the city.
On the right, just in front of Vittorio Veneto Square, there is the Gran Madre Church (Turin - 4 ).
The snowy peaks located halfway between the Mole and the Gran Madre are the top peaks of Monte Rosa (Pink Mountain), one of the major mountain blocks in the Aples; it owns its name to the color its glaciers often get at sunrise and sunset.
And finally, rightmost, on the top of the hill, the Basilica of Superga .

Just in case someone would like to see how Turin looks like - even if there are no leaves on the trees yet.

yes it was smoggy, or foggy, i don't know. we had wind all the night, so i thought that i could get a crystal clear view of the city, but when i was on the hill i realized that my guess was wrong. well, since i was there, i took the shot anyway... i will try again in some other windy day
thanks for your comment, man!

barninga In reply to AreteEirene [2007-03-21 21:18:28 +0000 UTC]

i use autostitch, from [link]

AreteEirene In reply to barninga [2007-03-22 23:12:10 +0000 UTC]

I've seen that. Can't use it on my mac though.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

barninga In reply to AreteEirene [2007-03-23 20:28:27 +0000 UTC]

well if you have a mactel you can install parallel and windows, and then run autostitch. i also know there's a project called darwine, derived from wine on linux, which should support autostitch.
time ago, on a motorola powered mac, i saw a windows emulator from insignia solutions, this also should work.

I'm not putting any windoze disc anywhere near my computer. (no offense; I do have access to one, and, um, no)

I actually have a stitching program for my mac, and it works for me so far.

i agree with you... i keep m$ software away from both my linux box and my imac...
but i find that wine is a cool project. it does not need windoze installed, it reproduces through linux native libraries the app-to-os interface provided by windows, so you can run several win apps just as if they were linux native apps...
i did not try darwine, though.

Stefano, the master of panoramas with no tripods I still have to do a panorama and use your tutorial, I must put that on my to do list As for the photo, I noticed the mountains in the distance first, I am in awe about cities being surrounded with such beauty! Nestled in the middle of the mountains and looking so beautiful and safe I must say I love the river is just so blue and beautiful from where you took this that it really wraps together the city and makes it look so peaceful even with those tall buildings and all the cars lol.
