Do you do any perspective setup, or do you just go straight into sketching?

I laid down some very rudimentary perspective lines for the three quarter and reference point marks for the front and side view but that is all.

Then your grasp on spatial reasoning is spectacular indeed. I always find myself having to rigorously construct perspective grids if I want my sketches to make visual sense.

I guess with enough practice you start to realize which lines of the grid are absolutely necessary and discard the rest. The remainder are all the lines I do need. To be honest I've never used the complete grid. Just occasional perspective lines and lots of eyeballing the problem.

Well the gull wings were inspired by the Martin PBM Mariner.

I really like this model... say, could you do It with some kind of AWAC's sensor dish on top of it? I'd be willing to pay for the commission if that's a problem?

Baron-Engel In reply to AlexanderDeath [2015-05-05 04:27:34 +0000 UTC]
Well the problem is that the design is going to be on the cover of a game book and there were rumblings from the creator of using it as actual design with specs in the game. However I will be opening my commission docket again and I'd more than willing to develop something just for you.

Rats! I really liked that design. But a remodel also has its advantages too, right? How much is your average commission? And whats the wait time also, if you don't mind me asking. I've liked a number of your pieces, and they have inspired me for units that are going in to the free web book I am writing.

That was one of the initial inspirations that the client wanted to capture in this project.

nah this is 20% cooler.

Nice job.
I would recommend full canards on the nose wings rather than ailerons.
Would give the bird more maneuverability.
With those props stealth is right out.

Not looking for stealth. In fact the client wants me to bulk it up a bit to give more of the Late 1930's experimental bomber feel. Accept this has gone into actual production.

Given the older time it would work. Larger would carry more internal.
I see that it may be more of a stand off type then. Drop at distance letting the guided ordinance do the job.
It is still a good looking aircraft.

Yeah but the V-1 was just something I stuck under the wing to show that the plane had two hardpoints. The pulse-jet bomb will not be appearing in the final game most likely.

Straight bombs would work. Just that bird looks awfully vulnerable. But I would imagine in a game it would probably rely on sheer numbers then or low level flight at speed.
Steampunk aircraft comes to mind.

It works. 1930s air power was new and highly feared. It's where Germany Air Force cuts its baby teeth on.

Yep, it was a time when people either grossly over-estimating or under-estimating what air power would be able to do in the next big war.

I like the smaller plane under the wings... kinda reminds me of the Japanese kamikaze plane's from world war 2, was that an inspiration?

Baron-Engel In reply to Machete1220 [2015-05-04 02:20:12 +0000 UTC]
actually that was a V-1 type weapon I stuck on for giggles. It is not intended to be part of that game universe.

Machete1220 In reply to Baron-Engel [2015-05-04 02:30:49 +0000 UTC]
Ah... the tail of the it is what reminded me of the kamikaze plane's. Heh, the V-1 flying bomb, also called the "doodlebug" by the allies, was a fantastic flop. Most of the time the damn things went so far off target they would impact the countryside and those that stayed on target would be shot down by the royal air force before they could do anything... then they nazi's came up with the V-2 rockets and a new world of hell began...
Damn, sorry about the impromptu history lesson, mate... its nasty habit of mine...

I've heard it argued that the Germans would have been better off concentrating on the V-1 instead of the V-2. The reasoning being that the very interceptable nature of the V-1 meant it tied up more Allied resources. With the V-2 if you didn't stop it before or immediately at launch there was nothing you could do to stop it. While the V-1 tied up fighters and anti-aircraft guns around London. When the V-1 numbers went down some of those resources could be shifted to mainland Europe. Of course by the time either was in action the writing was already on the wall.

True, but threat wise the V-1 was minimal... Hitler wanted to either bomb Britain into submission or terrify them into surrendering. The V-1 failed on both parts and thus was dropped for the far more frightening V-2. Being substantially faster and much more devastating then the V-1, the V-2 was something that "enabled Hitler to sleep soundly for the first time since the war started" according to my book on secret operations of World War II...
