Of course you can! For me doing master painting studies and plain air study paintings in guache is a way to improve in this field.

I haven't touched 'real' 2D painting since discovering digital art….not sure how I'd get along with it these days!!
I also think I'm too conditioned by my 'day job' as a SPFX artist to not become obsessed with the details; try as hard as I do to stay looses and painterly I continually find myself getting tighter and tighter, 'tidying' things up!

Yeah, its really easy to give up on traditional media while working with digital... But I'm still trying to draw traditional way in my spare time, its fun, and challanging since there is no undo/transform etc. Makes you acctually think what youre doing!
Thanks! Yours are great too, those alien heads are awesome! Tried something simiar some time ago (acutally its almost 2 years from now, wow...), will try them again soon probably, its never too much of alien heads, haha!

Well I still do all my drawing traditionally on paper....then scan it into the computer. I've tried drawing straight into PhotoShop but just can't get on with that...it doesn't 'feel' right.

Oh, sorry again for late response! Had little break from forums. Yeah, drawing lines on intuos is very painfull for me as well... Im cosidering to buy some Wacom companion/mobile studio for this. Did you have a chance to try drawing on those?

I wasn't sure what you meant by the Wacom Companion/mobile studio…I had to Google it…did you mean Manga Studio? Not that it makes any difference I haven't tried any of them. They do look cool and maybe if Santa Claus brings me one some year I'll give it a go..but I cant see myself rushing out to buy one. I'm very much a 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' kind of guy. I'm happy with my work processes and feel no need at the moment to change them…but of course, that could all change one day!

Nooo, Im wondering if you're using intuos wacom tablet type, or some sort of cintiq wacom, where you draw on the screen.

I've never tried any of Wacom's Cintiq platforms. I use Intuos Pro on both my MacBook and iMac. Annoyingly…and stupidly…I've just installed IOS Sierra on my MacBook and it's driving my Wacom tablet crazy. Looking online for help I've discovered it's a common problem which neither Mac or Wacom seem to be doing much about and the Sierra OS and Wacom drivers are incompatible. It's totally destroyed my workflow and I have no idea how to solve it.
I love computers…and hate them at the same time!!!

Me neither, thats why Im wondering if doing lineworks on cintiq feels better, since thats drawing on screen basically! At the same time it may be a little overkill to buy cintiq just for better lineworks, well... I guess Ill have to try it, and then decide!

I follow Todd McFarlane on FaceBook and I've watched his videos of him drawing and inking on a Cintiq and yeah…it looks brilliant! But it's a very expensive piece of kit to buy just for that and knowing me I'd buy it in a rash moment of excitement and then find out it's not what I really want. It's shame there's no way to try these things for a few weeks before committing to buying one! Maybe we should petition Wacom to start a 'lease trial' type thing so we can 'try before we buy'?
