Description
Done for Advanced Drawing (even though it's a painting). It's an illustration from one of my favorite books, [i]Redwall[/i], by Brian Jacques. All characters shown are his property.Cluny is planning his next strike against Redwall in the ruins of St. Ninian's church. Why I chose this particular scene, I don't know. This took a really long time to do, especially trying to figure out the paints. I made a lot of mistakes along the way, but I learned a lot, too.
Gouache on 140 lb. watercolor paper.

It's a beautiful picture. I loved these books, and though I don't collect them any more, the original ones remain close to my heart.
My only critisim, if you don't mind me saying, is that they look more like mice, rather then rats.

Hmm, I can't paint worth jack. I really don't know for sure though, because I never really do paint. : )
I like how you drew the architecture; That's kind of how I viewed it to look in the actuall book. I haven't tried to draw architecture with any of my drawings for a while now. Part of the time I never think about it.
I do have a keen vision of environmental detail though, heh. You should take a look at my sketch for my fanfiction based on Redwall, "Vine Saiden". Sketch #1 is some of my environmental work. Too bad nobody can really find it...
Anyways, it's definetely better than most of the stuff that I do see on here. Nice Job.

oh gosh, redwall takes me back. i remember reading a bunch of those. these rats are so cuddly, not how i'd imagine them from the book, but amazingly well rendered nonetheless.

oh, I think I've read that book yeeeears ago... about a mouse living in a castle in a forest, and all the forest animals are in war or something... against a fox? I can't remember anymore... there were several books, weren't there? it's called 'roodburcht' in Dutch I think... man, damn my memory!
