Description Well, I called it "It's Easy Being Green" obviously because it's an easy piece. Not much detail, simple design, etc. Actually, this was the first of a few that I tried to make into a more "presentable," or "retail" type sculpture, with the base and name, and so on. In the end, I only made a handful of bases before I got bored, and went back to character busts only.

However, I think this one turned out well. Since Cactuars are desert-dwellers, the obvious choice was the mini-sand dune, and I just photoshopped the game title and name, printed it out on glossy paper, and glued in into the niche.

Super Sculpey and acrylic (8th out of 73)

Cactuar & Final Fantasy are (c) Square-Enix

Its worth beating VIII its almost my favourite outta the lot of them (VII just pips it at the post) but anyway...cactuars are fantastic everyone shoul have one in their home. I liked the sidequest in FF10 where you had to hunt them all and find them in boxes or fishing and such. they're soo cute even if they are a little on the spikey side

Oh, the pressure to beat FFVIII!!! But yes, I liked that sidequest too, though I always used an item with the 'no encounters' ability to make all the running around a bit quicker.

A little side note, I like these little green guys so much, since the new sculpt I've been working on is finished, I think a quick one to do over the weekend might be another version...I'm thinking XII's Cactoid...just chewin' it over at the moment.

Thank you! I did a few with bases, but got a little tired of it after awhile. This one is probably my fave of the ones with bases, though my Umaro (FFVI) I like a bit as well. Might have to post him soon.

Personally, I prefer the pre VII name of Cactrot myself, but they are always a fun creature, but that 1000 needles can be damn annoying if you're not ready for it. heh

I like how you mount it on that rock. Nice work as usual.

Thanks! Yeah, Cactrot is a lot easier...for several years I thought it was CacTAUR rather than CacTUAR. Anyway, thanks for the nice comment.

I hated that character because he always ran away
from the battlefield ecxept the jumbo vers.
is a good memory from FF 7and 8.

Yeah, they could definitely be annoying. I know there was a jumbo one in X-2, and a giant Tonberry King in VIII...was there a jumbo Cactuar in VIII as well? Durn stupid memory...

I think they were cactrots in one of the games, can't remember which. This piece has a very high "Eekage value", meaning, of course, that I eeked very loudly in delight upon seeing it.

Great piece of work!! Do you have any moombas or tonberries hiding out there?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Beelzebubba666 In reply to gypsyleo [2007-11-18 23:10:15 +0000 UTC]

Ah, you are correct, sir! In Final Fantasy VI they were Cactrots. "Eekage value," you say? I'll have to remember that one. Happy you like it.

I did consider doing a moomba awhile back, but never got around to it. I do have a tonberry, but it's nothing special...pretty similar to the little action figure that came with the FFVIII toys way back when. I might post it one day, though.

That would be ma'am. Or miss. You know what, make it Dame. Of course, we can always just call these little green guys "Needles" and call it at that.

I have the action figure of the moomba from FF8, but I've never seen the Tonberry from that set. That said, of course, I do have the little plushie version of the Tonberry.

Love to see you post a list of some of the things you've sculpted. Bet you could get some pageviews by making us vote on what we want to see next. Or something....

Beelzebubba666 In reply to gypsyleo [2007-11-20 05:52:08 +0000 UTC]

Aha! Erm, sorry there...I was going for the Ed McMahon stooging for Johnny Carson "You are correct, sir!" thingee. Anyway, it's probably good to know for future, um...knowledge. Yeah.

Hmm. I want to say that the Tonberry came with one of the 4 figure sets that they came out with...probably the one that included Edea. And I have the plushie of the Tonberry (and a moogle) too.

You know, that's actually a really good idea. I tried it on an FF forum, but after a short burst of praise, I only got one vote, which resulted in Terra being posted. Then it died. I'll probably do that in my next journal. Thanks for the suggestion, Dame!

gypsyleo In reply to Beelzebubba666 [2007-11-20 05:57:50 +0000 UTC]

Sadly, I can't say I'm too young to know the whole Ed McMahon/Johnny Carson thing - just always been the type to be doing something other than watching TV at that hour!

Ah, when I got the FF8 figures I bought them in the large set, I think that was everyone but Quistis (whom I'm still missing).

I've got the plush moogle as well. Very useful in that last piece I was working on. Hope you didn't mind the shoutout.

As for the suggestion, you're very welcome and I wish you the best of luck with it. I'll be here to vote (as often as I can) as soon as post the list!!

Beelzebubba666 In reply to gypsyleo [2007-11-20 06:10:39 +0000 UTC]

In truth, I've never seen a single Johnny Carson show myself...just heard the drop I don't know how many times on radio shows heading in to work and so on.

The moogle was helpful? Can I assume you did a moogle picture of some sort? And good gravy, no I didn't mind the shoutout. Truth be told, back of my mind, with the somewhat sluggish pageview count (compared to many others on here, at least), I've been wondering if I should be putting these pieces up. In spite of that, however, a good few people on here do seem to like them, so that's enough to make it worth it.

Anyway, let's see...speaking of moogles...before I put any such list up, would you vote for a moogle? Hypothetically speaking, of course.

gypsyleo In reply to Beelzebubba666 [2007-11-20 07:13:08 +0000 UTC]

Well, I did a picture of Lulu, with a moogle, and a cactuar. One of *rplatt 's. You posted this guy, and it motivated me to get off my butt and finish work on it.

I've often felt that numbers don't matter unless there's a $ in front of them. So pageviews, smageviews...you post what makes you happy. You'll make other people happy.

As for the moogle, well, what are we talking about here? Are we talking A moogle? Are we talking Mog? FF6 Mog or FF7 Mog? Are we talking Kupo? Or are we talking Stiltzkin here? Yeah, I'd vote for a moogle, but, seeing some of the work you do, I can't say there wouldn't be other things I'd be tempted to vote for too. Sephiroth and Safer-Sephiroth come to mind.

Beelzebubba666 In reply to gypsyleo [2007-11-21 04:52:59 +0000 UTC]

Ah, that is the moogle of which you speak. If me posting this helped get that picture [link] (careful kiddies, mature content!) out the door, then I've done the world a great service.

But yeah, that's probably the most sensible way to look at pageviews. Who cares, really?

And last, we're talking FFVI Mog. But let's see...okay, you win. Sephiroth will be next. I'll probably have to put out a selection of 'em up for vote at a time, since I don't want to blow through my better ones all at once, and leave people with some of the more underwhelming pieces at the end. Just trying to pace myself
