Description I'm unofficially calling this dragon Vuur, which is Dutch for flame.

On a technical level, this dragon was a great learning experience. It's the most detailed painting I've done on a sculpture, the first time I've used super sculpey, and the first time I've sculpted wings, and the first time I've made a dragon with its mouth open. I think all in all it was a huge success and I am super happy with how durable super sculpey is.

On a personal level -

I don't usually put this kind of work into a gift, but this dragon is a special dragon an amazingly wonderful guy, René.

René had a friend who he had been best friends online with for over 6 years. He lives in the Netherlands and she lives in the US. He planned out a trip to go visit her and it turned into a complete and total nightmare. About a week before he was supposed to leave, she decided she wanted nothing to do with him and he ended up stick with tickets he couldn't cancel. She drove down to meet him in Minneapolis with her father and spent a day with him at the zoo. During that time, her father was more of a friend than she was to the guy who flew halfway across the world to see her!

Then he was stuck all alone in a different country in a trailer with nothing but a bike and his license not valid in the US.

My best friend, Evan, lives in St. Louis. We told René to get tickets from Minneapolis to St. Louis and that I would drive down there from Michigan and we could all hang out. I promised René it would get better and it did! We had an absolute blast visiting all the tourist spots, going out partying, watching movies, playing games, and after Evan went to bed, René and I usually sat up hours talking and messing around on Google maps looking at each others homes

I was so sad to leave Evan and René behind, but all vacations must end. I'm really glad I got to meet such a nice, funny guy. His "friend" totally missed out on meeting one of the best people I've ever met. Her loss is my gain, and I am totally lucky.

So here's to René .This little flame is going to get packaged up and sent to the Netherlands as a combination birthday present and I'm so glad I met you present.

You also sculpt? And not like just anyone either, that dragon looks really amazing!
I Especially like the structure on his back, and the way you painted him. You're talented.
On a other note I totally dig the personal story you added, you seem to be a very nice person. How did you know René before he visited the states?

Haha XD Yeah, I sculpt too. I do lots of stuff, though sculpting isn't one of my stronger points.

I met Rene playing video games online. I'm not sure how long I knew him before then, seemed like quite awhile.
