Description I'm unofficially calling this dragon Vuur, which is Dutch for flame.

On a technical level, this dragon was a great learning experience. It's the most detailed painting I've done on a sculpture, the first time I've used super sculpey, and the first time I've sculpted wings, and the first time I've made a dragon with its mouth open. I think all in all it was a huge success and I am super happy with how durable super sculpey is.

On a personal level -

I don't usually put this kind of work into a gift, but this dragon is a special dragon an amazingly wonderful guy, René.

René had a friend who he had been best friends online with for over 6 years. He lives in the Netherlands and she lives in the US. He planned out a trip to go visit her and it turned into a complete and total nightmare. About a week before he was supposed to leave, she decided she wanted nothing to do with him and he ended up stick with tickets he couldn't cancel. She drove down to meet him in Minneapolis with her father and spent a day with him at the zoo. During that time, her father was more of a friend than she was to the guy who flew halfway across the world to see her!

Then he was stuck all alone in a different country in a trailer with nothing but a bike and his license not valid in the US.

My best friend, Evan, lives in St. Louis. We told René to get tickets from Minneapolis to St. Louis and that I would drive down there from Michigan and we could all hang out. I promised René it would get better and it did! We had an absolute blast visiting all the tourist spots, going out partying, watching movies, playing games, and after Evan went to bed, René and I usually sat up hours talking and messing around on Google maps looking at each others homes

I was so sad to leave Evan and René behind, but all vacations must end. I'm really glad I got to meet such a nice, funny guy. His "friend" totally missed out on meeting one of the best people I've ever met. Her loss is my gain, and I am totally lucky.

So here's to René .This little flame is going to get packaged up and sent to the Netherlands as a combination birthday present and I'm so glad I met you present.

Really impressice it must be rough and tiring to make sculptures since there is little room for error.

Fantastic dragon! I love the eyes And such a sad story, Its always hard to trust someone you've never met face to face, because you never know how they are going to react

BeeZee im sooo amazed what you did for me! I really appreciate it and it turned out so awesome! I like how you actually named the dragon "Vuur" which is the Dutch word for Fire

Yeap, sadly enough the personal story above is all true. This person I was supposed to meet turned out to be quite the opposite of what you expect a "nice" person to be (either in real life as over the internet). As the trip in the US continued BeeZee and I found even more stuff about this person which is really wrong and outrageous, so yea, that's life folks.

Oh what an endearing little creation- I think those colours are spectacular and your modelling skills to be superb. They have a naive look on some sections (The nubby cute feet, the tear drop eye etc) but that only adds to the style and charm of this model.

Congrats! I surely hope to see this go up for a DD (because it is some lovely photography work to boot).
I mean its far better in terms of quality and originality then most of the balls I see up for it. Haha Quite.

I am rather jealous of your chap. What a splendid birthday present indeed.

Do not be so modest- such a fine piece of work deserves more then a crummy dd.

WOW, incredible work here! I'e worked with Super Sculpey on my articulating dragon sculptures and it is a fantastic sculpting material. But I have to ask, what kind of paint did you use on him? It doesn't look like acryillic paints?

BeeZee-Art In reply to Neffertity [2012-06-21 18:02:07 +0000 UTC]

It is just normal acrylic *nod nod* But I sprayed it down a few times with a matte finish to protect the paint and reduce shine, which might be why it doesn't look like it.
