I'm a long-time fan of Barenboim, not only as a conductor, but also as a pianist (I really appreciated his Beethoven's Sonatas some years ago), and I was so pleased when I heard of what you report.
It reminds me when Bernstein conducted the Israeli Philharmonic in Tristan und Isolde, thus putting an end on the Wagner's ban in Israel.
