Description
This was my final for Sam's digital painting class. That class was so amazing--I learned so much and improved too. I'm lucky I was a part of it.As for the picture, we were supposed to create a story/beat board. I decided to try a bookmark akin to the haunted mansion, you know, where the picture at the top is all sweet, but then you pan down and there's mischief afoot. I thought it would be funny if I did it with a twelve dancing princesses thread, where the princesses are mischievous and trying to get rid of their gentlemen suitors. This one was dancing with a gentleman on the bridge railing...or something. I think it is hard to read, so perhaps it is an ultimate fail.
I did learn a lot doing it, though, so I guess it's not a complete failure.

I got the Haunted Mansion reference right off - it faaabulous! Your treatment of the water is awesome, and those little bubbles next to the hat and tie crack me up, that's a wonderful detail to tell the story

Lovely background! The princess's clothes and hair turned out quite nicely as well.
This reminds me of the stretching paintings at the Disney Haunted Mansion. Innocent-looking at first glance, but then there's something more sinister (or mischievous in this case) at the bottom.

I understood what was going on immediately, so it isn't hard to read.

Just so you know, this is my MOSTEST VERY FAVOURITE bookmark that I had my mom laminate for me (with the magic machine that I don't understand yet). If you feel so inclined (and even if you don't) I'd be overwhelmed with joy if you happened to make more of this line.

Creepy! I like the subtle sinister elements, like the broken part of the fence, and the top hat floating on the water. The princess' expression is so smug/innocent, like she's thinking, Oopsies! Oh well, there goes another suitor...

I absolutely love this picture! I actually slowly scroll down from the top to the bottom because it does remind me so much of the Haunted Mansion, and I LOVE those portraits. The look on her face too, at first you could think she's innocently looking down in surprise, but after you've seen the bottom of the picture, her face does look much more sinister. The art itself too does have that disney feel to it that appears fun and silly, but also once you've seen the full thing is more like if Tim Burton ever did traditional animation, much creepier. Phenomenal job, I love this. I would love to see more bookmarks like this if you were ever inspired to do so.
