Description Дзень Волі ў Беларусь = Freedom Day/Independence Day in Belarus (Belarusian)

Omg, I finally finished this drawing for 3 monthes later, shot.

I wanted to draw something for Belarus' "real" independence day, March 25, but school was killing me these past couple of months.    Thankfully, I graduated high school and I had loads of free time to finish this drawing.

This picture is based on this poster that celebrates Belarus' independence from the Russian Empire on March 25, 1918. However, sadly this newborn country called the Belarusian People's Republic (BNR) or Белару́ская Наро́дная Рэспу́бліка (БНР)* only existed for less than a year because the Soviets captured Minsk, the capital, and installed a communist regime called the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR) or Беларуская Савецкая Сацыялістычная Рэспубліка (БССР). The outfit Belarus is wearing is based off of the girl's outfit in the picture.

I find it sad that Belarus doesn't officially celebrate it's real independence day, but I'm not surprised since Lukashenko seems to hate anything that would give Belarus an identity that deviates from its soviet past. This is why he moved the independence day to July 3 to celebrate the liberation of Minsk by the Soviets from the Nazis (not that this isn't an important holiday, but it helps dilute Belarus' history outside of the soviet period and helps Lukashenko's mission of russifying the Belarusian state). I hope one day, Belarus will be free from the dictator that controls her right now. Until then, it's up to good patriots like to continue to use and promote the Belarusian language and culture so that it doesn't die out and so that future generations of Belarus can continue to preserve the culture.

*Contrary to what one would probably assume, the BNR WAS NOT a communist state. The naming might throw some people off because a lot of communist states were officially called "the People's Republic of ...." (eg. Poland, North Korea, Romania, Hungary, China, etc). To help distinguish itself from similarly named communist republics, the BNR was also known as the "Belarusian Democratic Republic".

*Edit*: I forgot to say, I'm sososo stupid because I forgot to draw the Pahonia on the coat of arms in the top left hand corner because I had already started making the lineart before I realized my mistake. So, sorry about that....

Hetalia does not belong to me. It belongs to Himaruya Hidekaz.
The art belongs to me.

Come to think of it, there are so few things that are known about Belarus national side
I was thinking about it recently and well.. even being your close neigbour, living only 30 km from Belarus border and even if I've been to Belarus for several times, I have no idea of what Belarus national holidays are, no idea about national celebrations, costums, traditions, folklore.. anything! Even your language - can't be heard a lot. Indeed everywhere is Russian, everyone speaks Russian.
Maybe, we here in Latvia are too much obsessed with national traditions and stuff?
But it would be indeed great if we heard more of Belarus national side
That's why - thanks very much for the drawing ^^ Keep going!

Oh my gosh...I'm so flattered that you (whose art style I really admire!) like my drawing! Thank you so much!    Yeah, it's sad that there's so little information about Belarus' national side (at least in English for me). I think it's great that you guys in Latvia are obsessed with national traditions because everyone can easily learn about Latvian culture (at least from the Internet) while it's harder for me to find information (in English) about Belarusian national culture. I hope that someday there will be more information about Belarus' national side.

Oh, thank you
I like the art that makes to think, that has some idea behind

Yeah, probably it is possible to find some information in Russian.
But it's not only about information.
Do you see many people from Belarus wanting to share their national stuff?
History, culture, anything. I haven't met them yet. But I hope to!
Belarus still is a misterious and distant country to me..

Hopefully within the next decade or so, Belarus will become less mysterious and distant to everyone. It is hard to find many people wanting to share their national stuff, that's why I'm grateful RoxyOxygen is my friend. She taught me a lot about Belarusian national stuff.

Indeed
But it's really grate that there are such people who want to share  a lot (maybe they compensate)

Super cool. It really is a shame that Belarus isn't free.

P.S., who do you think would win the award for 'Europe's Biggest Dickhead', Putin or Lukashenko? For me, its a tie, unless there's another bozo running around, doing the crimes that these two (and the leaders of Uganda, Syria, and any country in turmoil for that matter) have done.

Thank you. Sorry I took so long to respond to you, my life has finally kind of gotten back on track. Hehehe You know, it's hard to say at this point who would win that award. I may slightly be leaning more towards Putin cause he's just fucking crazy and Lukashenka has oh so slightly calmed down, for now that is.
