Hey, that's quite nice! I can see how this would take some time to render, especially with the reflections and shadows. Reflections are always a pain and take a bunch of time to render (properly) in DAZ as well. The colors work nice here. Looks like her pose would be a royal pain, particularly trying to avoid clipping issues with the legs!

Thanks man! I'm quite impressed with Poser render engine but it still gives that "drawing" quality to the work.

And you're right! Poser this girl was a bitch! 4 hours worth of bending & stretching but it's worth it because I didn't do much photoshop work on her body except for her stockings. As you know, stocking don't fall right on the figures. There's always this extra bits overflowing out of the skin. That took some time to touch up on photoshop.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with this IBL lighting rendered on this piece.

I'd say it was overall worth the time! One thing I hate really trying to pose is weapons. I know there's preset poses available, but I refuse to use them in most cases. If you take away the posing aspect by using presets, the only creative outlet you have as an artist is camera angle and render settings...not much to go on.

Yeah, a good artist usually do things the hard way!

But one trick I learned is sometimes it's alright to use those preset poses and modify from there. Saves quite a lot of time trying to bend and manipulate the model from scratch.

Thank you! Glad you liked it.

I actually wanted something with more of a panache like a Designer's pump or stilettos. Unfortunately I couldn't find them. So she'll have to make do with some platform heels.

Oh you're being too kind!

But I supposed an assassin in kick ass shoes might work just as well.

Well, the 3d models are not details enough, what I mean is the Katana, the lace stocking and lace bra as well, the shoes and the seat. That's make people feel that you're not concentrate enough when you doing this

More details on Katana, maybe you can add something unique to it, maybe some texture or japanese words ? Like the one use by Tom Cruise in The Last Samurai movie ?

It will make the assassin looks Professional

Those lace are okay already, just...adjust them a little bit, maybe you should refer to some professional lace lingerie brand. Here [link] or you can search Victoria Secret on google.

Shoes and Seat are quite ok so far, maybe more bump or more nice materials / textures on them :0

That's all, Mr Thor. I'm sorry if I've said something real nasty

Btw, we both lived in same country

Ya la. Penang kia damn gau kwai lan one!

First of all I am not a modeler as in I don't use 3Dmax or Lightwave. Most of my stuffs are pretty much ready made. This female model is my first attempt in making new skin map for the 3D model. I am quite please with the result of a fair skin Asian girl but still need to put in a little bit of work as this V4 mapping has very weird seams. There's difference between the color tones in the body parts.

Granted, I agree with you that the bra needs to be a little bit more sophisticated but hey like I said, I don't do my own models. It's a product by Pretty3D I think.

As for the katana, it's also some free 3D model I downloaded somewhere. I've modified a little on the mapping work on it. It used to have some jap words like the one in Last Samurai but I removed it. I'm a practicing iaido and kendoka so my interest is pretty much in the katana too. Real katana usually don't have inscription like the one in the movie. (BTW I really hated the movie!) I've retouched the tsuki to look more like the real katana. If I were to critique the katana I would say that the tsuka is a little too long.

Personally I think of a katana as an epitome of zen principles. It's simple in appearance but the real beauty is in the blade smithing. Like most Japanese martial art moves, it's all about economics. No flashy stuffs, just kill and kill effectively. This is my intention to bring out this aspect of Japanese sword in this piece.

Anyway, thanks for the critique. I see your point from a modeler's perspective. But my main objective is more on composition and body pose of the figures.

Don't get me wrong, I love seeing those gamer graphics and cosplay stuffs but I find them a little too complicated and flashy. Still if I were to design a game character I would go towards that direction but on a personal level I'd prefer to keep things a little simple.

I like your work on those warrior characters. It's elaborate and real flashy gamer character graphics. But personally I prefer simplicity and practicality in my work.

On hindsight, I think the lighting is a little too over expose. But after 3 hours of rendering 4000 x 6000 px I think I'm too lazy to re-render this and move on to a new piece.

Hahaha, you know I'm from Penang

Yea you have your own points as well on your work, you have the potential to go further you know.

Ah ha I face the same rendering problem like yours before, what I do is : Render in 800x600 or maybe 1024x768 to see the result first, after you satisfy with the result, ok just move on to larger resolution render !

It's nice to meet you anyway

BigKahuna70 In reply to J-Century [2011-08-01 02:39:47 +0000 UTC]

Errrr... yes that's how it works. Render and re-render to check and see if things are ok. The figure pose took me almost 4 hours to get it the way I want. That includes the hand position and the fingers. The fingers was a bitch to do!

Like I said earlier, I'm more into the human figure and the overall composition of the piece that I'm working on. Not so much of the massive and complicated 3D models. I'm a creative director for an ad agency in professional life, I just do this for fun.

And nice to meet you too. Which school you go to in Penang?
