Description A pod of Frillnecks (Exuscitus ostrum) seem to realize that they are in little danger from the Redneck Calvus (Validumala rufus) passing by, clearly not on the hunt, but they still move away from the predator just to be safe. Pilot Thrups (Tersus sequitur) stay close to the Calvus, waiting for him to make a kill so that they can feed on the scraps.
This plains area has fairly nutrient-rich soil, allowing Conefruit Pogs (Calluformes gigans) to grow up through the Plategrass (Nymphaelis pronus).

It´s cute how those frillnecks can show so much expression and personality with so little body language.
They also look a lot like the Gungans and Kaadu from "Star Wars; the Phantom Menace". Are you a fan of Star Wars?

Thank you!
And I'm a huge fan of Star Wars! I've actually been using the book 'The Wildlife of Star Wars' for a lot of the coloration patterns I've been using in Nerrivik.

I like that book. Terryl Whitlatch´s skills at drawing animals are just so impressive.

The Frillnecks remind me of otters.

Huh, I didn't really see the resemblance when I was making them, but now that you point it out I can see that same kind of profile impression. It's cool that there's a similarity here, they're lifestyles and anatomy are so different!

This calvus looks, "apexy", is this guy a well renowned predator similar to lions?

Yeah, they're large solitary hunters, and the predominant type of predator in Nerrivik's northern hemisphere, contrasted with the Cohors of the southern.

So Cohor and Calvus territory never overlap?

Biofauna25 In reply to Markaronicheese [2015-09-27 15:08:48 +0000 UTC]

Nope. The continents they inhabit have been separated since before the two lineages split from their common ancestor.
The same concept applies for how there are Mula and related large herbivores in the south while the north has Talgas, Frillnecks, and other small-to-midsize herbivores; different prey goes with different predators.

Awesome as always!
The two fighting Frillnecks in the background are a nice touch

No, the stream isn't frozen, I just haven't figured out how to draw good-looking water.

well, it would be much more obvious its flowing if the creature's paws were submerged a bit more. as for making the water more water-like, would you be able to make the plants on the bank reflect in it?
