Description
The support structures in the tails of most Avesia have in the Vanura Family become stronger and more prominent, while the tail itself has become shorter. In most species, only two of these rods are especially strong, and they are used as supports for the tail-fan, either for a display or extra flight stability and control. In a few, however, all have evolved into sharp spines tipped with toxins the animals pick up in their diets. These poisonous species have little to fear from most predators, so are able to make themselves stand out with green coloration. Members of the Vannura Family have also evolved a muscular flap on the bottom of their body that allows them to perch more easily.
