No worries. Outside of knowing each character represents a nation (and many of their stereotypes when it comes to their personality), I usually don't reference the original story much

Yep, it becomes an empty shell once the "werewolf spirit" comes out

I say keep simplifying and messing with the proportions...
I'm curious how this would look as one of those games like visual novels. Saves you from having to draw speech balloons!

Backgrounds? Once you approach backgrounds as masses of color or tone, and start to realize to situate characters... I had the hardest time with layouts (trees in particular I still suck at) before I hit upon the idea of thinking of the arrangement of elements like the character's poses... Backgrounds get easier once you start thinking of the characters as IN them rather than in front of them.
Speech balloons are basically verbal engineering... they can look right or wrong and it takes quite a bit of practice!

That's exactly my issue. Not counting how much of a pain foliage is, I have a hard time telling exactly what's where as the camera shifts around . That's why I need to build a scale model of the environment, since I'm paying more attention to detail than usual to build this story > >

Alrighty then, very cool.
Okay, top-left to bottom right, here we go...
(Firstly, I'm presuming that they can transition between bipedal and quadrupedal, rather than us trying to decide on one mode of locomotion over the other.)
France's design looks pretty seamless, the only thing I might see is on the face illustration, the eyes might be just a little high above the nose compared to the other illustrations which seem to feature a shorter distance between eyes and snout. Other than that, I find the feline limb proportions very spiffy, and seeing a walk cycle should prove quite interesting.
For England it's pretty much the same pluses, and the facial arrangement seems consistent across all three drawings. For both of them, I like the subtle indications of body hair. Nice blending of the humanoid and animal features.
As for Germany, I'm not an expert on dog anatomy, but it seems to me you've hit the nail on the head. Also, I'm not an expert on dog expressions, but if that's a snarl like I think it is, well drawn. It blends well with the discreet glow of fire and smoke effect. Also, I love the way his bright blue eyes pop from the dark coat.
I keep looking at Japan's drawings, but I can't find anything to say other than, love the detail, and blending of different tissue textures. A turtle-beak with teeth is not something I see every day, but then I haven't looked to deep into Kappa images/descriptions, though I'd be surprised if I were to find they didn't have teeth, based on the stories I've heard.
Italy does look quite disappointed about this, but then, he often looks distressed. Out of curiosity, is the tomato he's sitting on a prop for the sake of the study, or will that be something he's seen with consistently?
And Amerimochi - a design as cute and reliable as ever.
I see what you did there with the faint drawing/writing. From what I can see, the design looks awesome, and I especially find the eye setup interesting. Am I understanding correctly that he'll have a ghost tail rather than legs?
Nice lean Easter Hair, this makes sense. The only thing I can find design-wise to ask about is whether the hair on his head "flows" away from the ears, or given a certain angle, one might see contours of hair hiding the base of the ears.
As for Latvia, it seems legit based on the name alone and I rather like the smooth/sleek body shape. The way his head rests on his neck reminds me somewhat of some long-necked bird species...
Estonia, I have to admit, I had to twist my head around to see which contours translated to what, but I find that refreshing. It's almost comical: given the context of hetalia characters, the glasses would almost be a dead giveaway. It definitely makes me want to look into this myth more. Did I remember correctly some time ago that Estonia was based on a "man-eating tree"?
I'm not entirely sure what to make of the spoiler, but little Nav' Russia... poor baby. Γ³ w Γ²; I'm still loving their designs, and the preservation of Russia's nose. XD
Again, I don't study canine anatomy and physiology all that much, but Lithuania's left hind leg might seem to me to be extended a little oddly... that's really the only thing I can find to "pick at" for him, other than that, I have to say, I'm adoring his expression, and I think the almost-glowing green eyes are a nice touch. Interesting head shape in the running profile too. I presume that's a random drawn 'victim' for reference to the whole werewolf notion?
Unfortunately, it's getting a bit late where I live (about 1:20 a.m.), and I have a feeling my friend is waiting for me to get off the computer... this is about all my brain can pull together for now. I hope it's alright. Let me know if you'd like more targeted notes. Talk to you later.

Some can, some can't. Those poses help me understand how they would look in both positions and determine their locomotion (I very much doubt we'll find France standing up very often or England walking on all fours)
France - Yeah, I'm not 100% happy with him either. I'll probably stick with the more simplified facial features of the full body ones
England - I dunno, I'll probably ditch the neck fuzz. It looks a bit awkward in the frontal poses
Germany - I'd be surprised if I didn't, I used a lot of photo references But yeah, the dark coat really makes the flame glows stand out even more. I'll definitely keep that
Japan - To be honest there's so many different kappa designs (the old ones, I'm not using the newer cutesy versions), I wouldn't be surprised if one had teeth. But I don't insist on keeping it
Italy - It's just there to give a bit of sense of scale, since his new size is one of the reasons he'll be so distressed
America - And not nearly as annoying to draw with the eyes. It sits well with all those scary ghostsΒ stories. And yes, he won't focus on his legs very much, so they'll rarely materialize beyond a vague wisp
Prussia - Considering he has short hair there's little need to show which direction is flowing, like with France's. Actually I think I'll avoid making things too realistic in general, considering the amount of work everything else will be
Latvia - The descriptions I fond say the pukis are very snake/ribbon like (and the word can also mean kite), with a long tail and red comet like colors. But I might shorten his wings just a tad though...
Estonia - I'll probably have to simplify his design a bit. It was a bit of a pain to draw. And no, it's the Travelling Forest myth. They move away from scenes of carnage and such
Russia - I like that nose a bit too much
Lithuania - The leg looks a bit weird because it's midair, trying to find a place to land without stepping on the body (it's not the most favorable of angles > >). And no, according to the myth the werewolf body is the "exhaled" spirit. So that body is actually Lithuania's
No worries, it was a good start ^^

GAH, internet ate my rely. DX
My apologies for the upcoming condensed response, once this [the obliteration of my prepared words] happens, my thoroughness mood is heavily impaired.
My multiple faux pas in the last reply aside, I definitely see your points regarding simplicity for streamlining (re: France, Estonia), adjusting/removing features that are awkward at given angles (re: England) and why they're designed the way they are (re: Germany, Prussia, Latvia, Lithuania, Japan, Italy, America). Thank you also for setting me straight on the representation of Lithuania and Estonia, and those are pretty cool facts about Latvia's creature.
Good exploration of the possibilities overall, and honestly, I couldn't find anything about them that I would change, save for your mention of simplification for production purposes. Were there any specific concerns you had? Or forming ideas about planning/developing further?

Yes, the manor; I want sure if you wanted me to take another crack at the floor plans I started a while back, or if you wanted to continue with the minecraft approach I remember hearing about.

Makes sense, and sounds neat.
Alright; something I noticed when I saw your Minecraft screenshots from way back when though, is that my floor plans were missing something I'm always forgetting: the "little things" - everyday things like dressers, lighting and the like. Do you want me to try and add those to the floor plan, or do you mostly want me to stick to what's connected directly the house's infrastructure?
I remember the first drafts I'd come up with and sent via Google Drive had some fundamental problems, like rearranging-and-redoing-it-completely-from-scratch problems. I'll review your responses to it, and see what I can come up with, but are there any specific new ideas you'd like me to incorporate?

Birvan In reply to Mr-Asquith [2015-06-16 18:25:19 +0000 UTC]
No, you don't need to go into that level of detail if you don't want to. You just need to make sure there's enough room for the furniture and all the little rooms (like pantry, bathroom, etc) are accounted for (not sure if they'll play a role or not, so better be safe than sorry)
No, not really
