it looks like a harmless cute forest spirit XD so the prey's like "oh it's just a cute little animal" and then nxt second they're like "omigod it's a ngugguguguguggu" cause by then the peryton just killed them XD

The heart is highly unlikely because of the protection provided by the ribs. The easiest target is the neck
But this is something that varies between perytons, since they have different designs
