Description
Work in Progress of a new piece for "me".
a 3015 era refit of the venerable RFL-3N. Inheriting a massively damaged Rifleman after his brother was killed at the controls while fighting against House Marik, Sgt Thom Plunket, a technician for the 4th Skye Rangers, rebuilt the ravaged machine and re-enlisted into the LCAF, this time, as a Mechwarrior.
In the year between his first and second tour, Sgt Plunket spent his time split between mech simulators, and the tech shed, spending his life savings, and leveraging a large amount of debt to put the Rifleman, oddly dubbed "the Baker", into fighting shape again.
Unable to get a second large laser, and dissatisfied with how inefficient the machine was, Thom actually ripped the remaining large laser out, and placed it above the cockpit. This left him with 5 tons to play with though.
The original magazine had been penetrated, which is what had killed his brother, though fortunately it had only a couple cassettes left at the time, and so didn't fully gut the old mech. Realizing this was an opportunity to fix the ammunition shortage issue that had always plagued the design, he ran a 1 ton ammo magazine and feed for the autocannon into each side torso.
To help with the heat issues, he added a Heat Sink, and moved the destroyed left leg heat sink into the side torso. Lastly, realizing that armor was cheap, he added 3 full tons of armor to the frame.
Repairs and training complete, Sgt Myers rejoined his previous regiment, now as a Mechwarrior Sergeant. His commanders have been impressed enough with the modifications that they are exploring the feasibility of performing similar conversions on the other Rifleman chassis in the regiment.
**Of course, there is no free lunch, especially in the 3rd Succession War. For all of Sgt Plunket's skill, the re-located Large Laser has an intermittent short, that seems to only happen while running hot.
On any roll of a 2 with the Large Laser, while running 5 or higher on the Heat Scale, the laser malfunctions and is inoperable until repaired.
Also, the armor, while generally well applied, still puts weight imbalances where not intended, which has occasionally led to his Gyro's spilling when under heavy strain.
When making piloting checks while running, or for taking 20+ dmg, the PSR is made with a +1 penalty.
Also, Currently, the Internal Structure of the Left Torso has damage irreparable outside of a full refit, the LT only has 12 IS.
Sgt Plunket is not happy with these issues, and he works tirelessly to try to fix them, and has fixed most of the worst issues, but to date, these issues have eluded him, or been beyond his resources to handle.
So...would you drive this version (specifically sans the issues)?
