Description At first i wanted to push it a lot further. But now i'm not sure if it is worth it. I feel it works alright as it is.

I felt like this was an ongoing one, the boss on the right just received a bad news and destroyed in anger. Design, style, shading, lighting, coloring are stunning. Β

nice work ! if you had to push it a bit further i'd say define more the big guy and his face, but it works fine like that !Β

Thanks. And yes. The face and the different materials of the clothes could be worked on and i actually tried just that haha. but when i checked what i had done with what i had before. It was technically better, but it lost the feel that i liked about the character and decided to just go with that instead. I didn't have the courage to try again i suppose^^.

It works fine and looks good. I do wonder how it looks with a bit more contrast?

How long did it take you to make this?

Overall it looks great especially the armor of the guards.Β

Yeah i should have played with the contrast or is it the values? Everything seems a bit to much on the same plane. It's a bit flat. As for the time, i'm not sure. But it was faster then what i usually do. Less then a day that is haha.Β

Maybe it's both a bit more values and contrast. I think it will make it a bit better even though I like it the way it is.Β

A day is pretty fast indeed. Did you use reference for this one or did you do it out of your imagination?

Again it's a nice piece man.

Oh don't worry and thanks^^. I assume that you spending the time to comment and critic it, is a sign that you do find the piece interesting enough to do so. And i completely agree that there is something to be done with the values and the contrast. The day i do a picture that can't be improved on is the day i retire haha.

As for references.
I usually don't use them while painting because for me at least, they tend to kill the flow i'm in. Β That being said. What i often do is stop when i'm lost or feel i'm getting blind to the painting( if that makes sense?). Come back later. evaluate what doesn't work. Then try to make a plan on how to fix it. That is usually when i decide to look up references. Either paintings that seem close to what i want or materials, anatomy issues etc. But when the planning stage is over, i close everything and paint referring to my memory of what i observed. I'm honestly not sure that is the best way of doing things. And i think it depends hugely on your personality on what works best for you. Some prefer to do intense studies before and after. Other like to always have the references on sight. That is really up to you to decide i think.
