Description 3rd piece in the AP Studio Art concentration of 12. The phoenix is referenced in the bible as a bird that rises from the ashes and is, in a sense, immortal.

Used colored pencil on black board, and decided it would be cool to continue the inner-border idea and make some of it break the border. Took 2 nights to do this one, and no reference photo was used. Its probably one of my favorite pieces I have ever done. Like? Dislike? Why?

Also, do you have any ideas for what to put in the background? Does it even need something in the background? Please let me know! Thanks

I don't think you need anything in the background but I think you need to consider the foreground a little more. The frontal flames seem a little out of place.

Thank you for your feedback! Which frontal flames are you talking about? The red-ish ones on the right or the other ones?

Um well its the whole line of those with the white tips. barring the ones closest to the dragon. And maybe its just the bit of white that is throwing me. I also detest the blue.

But all of that is crap. I think it needs to be stylized and textured like the flames on the background that make up the wings.

I absolutely love the highlights you put on this piece
As per the background, if you're going with the idea that the bird is breaking free from the border, then perhaps continuing with that (e.g. a rigid or constrictive pattern that breaks near the pheonix).

Ah, you're welcome. Merely helping out a fellow Studio Art student is all! (That and the phoenix itself is pretty rad)
