Personal Info ► ✦ Personality:
[ Cheerful | Friendly | Affectionate | Determined | Reliable | Cautious ]
[ Arrogant | Idealistic | Overly Sensitive | Insecure | Perfectionist | Stubborn ]
Romeo is a cheerful friendly soul. Of the three de Fiore siblings, he is by far the “sensible” and “quiet” one. But this in no way describes him. While his siblings often verge on the far edge of too much, Romeo (hopefully) falls into the just right category of friendly. He thoroughly enjoys meeting new people, new situations, and willingly throws himself into new friendships. However, he takes the time to consider the risks and benefits of any actions, like choosing a job, or whether or not that dark cave is really worth exploring at this time of day when the tide is due to come in.
He is most certainly an extrovert, and needs social interaction. While he does enjoy one on one chats, he prefers a group of people for him to have the most fun. This being said, he does enjoy heading out to the beach by himself, or heading off for a hike. But if he had the option, adding a couple more people in? Makes the experience even better.
While very trustworthy, he does have a strong sense of “right” and “wrong”, and this morality is very important to him. He does not appreciate people who breach this sense of morality he has. And the limitations of this are certainly of Romeo’s own making, he believes he has the right idea of what is right and what is not.
Romeo has always been the most sensitive of the de Fiores, the first to spot when a joke has been taken too far. But the sensitivity extends to other places, he does not like being in the wrong, and often dips to the negative when things don't go according to plan. Especially in the last few years, since the incident with the boat, Romeo has been having a hard time with his sense of self, as a large part of his identity has been wrapped up with water based activities. The loss of this has left a massive void.
✦ History:
[TL;DR: Romeo had a normal childhood, went to uni, became a marine biologist. An incident occurred and he devloped an irrational fear of water. He quit his job, and moved back home until he made a pact with his demon to loose his fear of the water.]
Romeo was born in Naples, Italy, but his family moved to the UK when he was eight years old. His mother, Catherine, was the daughter of an English businessman, and having grown up in the UK, felt it would be nice to move there, at least for a while. As an aspiring journalist, she felt career options would be greater. However journalism slipped by, and a while turned into indefinitely as the family opened up a local buisness starting with a flower shop, and morphing into a small luxury perfumery - undoubtedly Catarina’s passion project. Romeo’s father, Leone continued working as a marine biologist, inspiring Romeo’s choices in life.
Romeo’s childhood was fairly unremarkable, idillic even. He and his siblings had no problem moving, being rather a gregarious bunch. Life was simple. Go to school, come home, play with his siblings. Play with the neighbours. The whole family would go on day trips to various beaches, often dragged along on research forays, and equally as often just to play in the water. They were taught to surf and windsurf by his dad, and both sets of grandparents were actively involved with their grandchildren. All in all, an easy life.
Being the most driven, and career oriented of the de Fiore siblings, Romeo elected to go to university in Aberdeen for marine biology. He graduated, started working and life was good, everything was going according to plan.
Until the summer after graduation. While on holiday with his family, [R E D A C T E D]. From that point onwards, Romeo couldnt face the water. Initially, he was given leeway and worked primarily indoors, but soon pride and guilt overtook, and Romeo admitted to himself this was no quick fix. At this point he quit his job, returned home to work at the family business.
Two years went by, and fear left Romeo still unable to get into bodies of water, both fresh and sea. Family holidays became a source of great guilt, because of course his family made accommodations, fewer trips to the beach, cancelled a whitewater rafting holiday etc.
The last de Fiore family holiday, was a beach holiday. Simple, relaxed. Nothing particularly dramatic. Near to a town so Romeo would have something to do. Slightly more busy and less good for surfing than usual. Romeo sat on the beachside balcony, reading the newspaper, when his twin, Serena, appeared to gently bug him about joining her in the water. Or at the very least take up some councelling. The dicussion was a practiced dance between the two, following a script almost to the letter. It was only when Serena that spotted a silly little advertisement in the paper - an advert for a psychic claiming to “make your wishes come true” - that the script changed. Neither twin taking it seriously, Serena called up the number, forcing Romeo to answer.
And well. It seemed to change things. The family put it down to ‘just the right time’ for a change, and of course, many many jokes about psychics. But Romeo was back in the water. Over the next few months, he tested his returned joy in the water out, and began reapplying to jobs in marine biology. Everything was going so well. Until he woke up in the Hell dimension. He likes to ignore it as much as possible, but, well. It undeniably exists, and well. Romeo always likes to have his facts straight. He never expected the impulsive joking phone-call to have such intense side effect. Only a couple months have passed for Romeo since his first appearance in the strange place.
