On one of my frequent dive trips to Seward Alaska, a friend and I were doing an experimental navigation dive near the "Fox Island Ship Wreck." It was early spring and there was still a lot of snow on the ground and in the water. The visibility was very poor and we were not expecting to see anything. We were wrong. It was about 80ft down when I first saw it, fading into view. A massive Lion's Mane Jellyfish, the largest Jellyfish species in the world! It's mantle was about four feet in diameter, and the tentacles stretched at least 60ft into the depths! As we got closer, I started to notice more dark figures in the distance. I counted three at first, then four, then ten Lion's Mane Jellyfish! Each, progressively bigger than the next! It was the first Lions Mane Fluther I had ever seen, and It was awesome!! I thank God for my Dry Suit, otherwise this shot would have been impossible!
