Caesar is an intelligent, driven, ambitious, cunning and determine man, earning respect and trust of his peers and higher ups by courage, determination, and luck. He is most comfortable on the battlefield; and being a soldier is the life he excels at.
His best friends and only real family he has now are the cadets he serves with. As his real biological family is still stuck in the future. On the battlefield he is confident, highly skilled, instinctual, and ingenious yet clam and observant. Off the battle field he is often insecure and somewhat naive, never really fitting into the new world he was dropped in much less the world he left.
Although he has a towering and somewhat brittle pride, a man too proud to ever fail, he has remarkably little ego. He never really understands the loyalty of his men was to him personally, more than to any unit. He marveled at their confidence in taking on numbers ten times their own, he did not understand, It is said by many of the people that served under him , that he could make his men feel that "the impossible was just a little troublesome and that victory was common place where he led." He is a born leader, a natural soldier.

Having been bullied and lied most of his early life by so call friends, students and teachers in the past has turned him into something of a misanthrope and cynic. Because of this he has a bit of inferiority complex, offend feeling worthless. He usually hide this with his smart ass attitude and sarcasm. Often when he befriends someone new he always wondering if in the future they are going to use him for there own ends. This childhood of mistrust let to subtle rebellion and mistrust against authority, mostly against people he thinks there only doing for there own again unless he had known them for sometime. So it common to do several things to rebel like brutal sarcasm,insults and nasty tricks. This gave him quite a sharp tongue similar to Mary Ann and became something of hothead. He often blames himself for Anne`s death as he was the one that called her to hurry up when she was late for there date. This made him think he was cursed and left him a state of melancholia witch got only worse after the death of his grandfather at the hands of gangsters and the ruthless revenge he got. To hide this he usually has this fake smile and act happy. Do to these events he has a lot of rage and anger at the world witch has got him in trouble more that once.

Do to this difficult childhood he didn,t have many friends, so turned to books to keep him company until he stated high school where he befriend Martin and later Mary Ann he became a little more open. This little crack in his armor had led him to be a little more happy so much so he when on trips with is aunt where got a lot of friends and souvenirs and eventually his late girlfriend Anne Duffy. Due to his smart ass ways and new openness has led him to be somewhat eccentric and to have quite the wild sense of humor, like the time he pranked Mary Ann with a friend dressed as a mugger armed with a prop machine gun. Despite his now jolly and happy nature there is a more ruthless and cruel side to Caesar which only comes out when in danger or in battle. Unlike many other people throughout the comic in the early days after the flash, Caesar does not underestimate his enemies, he knows full well how battle-experienced and dangerous the Auxiliaries and the British army are due to history books and his first hand experience during the attack on plamer plaza .

Backstory

Early childhood to beginning of middle school

  Caesar or officially know as Ruben Alvarez was born in October 31 in the HIMA San Pablo hospital in Caugas Puerto Rico to a single mother. His early childhood consisted of being babysat by neighbors and family friends as his mother was always working to keep the bills in check. As a little kid he was taller and more precocious then the other kids in school but was fat. This made him a target for bullies even if he was taller and could beat them to a pulp. He often defended himself but this was seen by the school staff if he was starting the fights due to a lack of witnesses. This got him in to a lot of trouble at home as well as his mother never got the full story as she was always working and almost never heard Caesar part of of the story. The infamy he got at school got him the nickname of El monstruo negro (the black monster) due to his birthday being on Halloween so he had very few friends. So he mostly turned to books for company be coming a avid reader of poetry, myths and legends and most importantly history making him quite precocious.There was one person in the school more infamous than Ruben and that was Ricky Cumel a older kid and his gang who got scott free due to Ricky being the principal`s nephew.

  Once Ricky pushed Ruben down the stairs, as Ruben was crying in pain in the bottom of the stairs. Ricky`s friends beat him with broomsticks. A badly battered Ruben got sent to the hospital with a broken leg while Ricky got off scott free. While in hospital Ruben read about Juilus Caesar and his revenge against the pirates and had made a plan. After getting out of hospital he had one thing in his mind revenge. To this day nobody knows how Ruben got his revenge. but he reduced the popular bully to a social outcast. When Ricky found out that Ruben was behind it he set up a ambush armed with a baseball bat after school to get him back. Ricky was not found until the next morning, duct taped to the basketball hoop in the school courtyard beaten senseless broken baseball bat next to him, written on his forehead were the words Veni. vidi, vici. After this incident there was a police investigation during the investigation it was found out the principal was spending school funds on personal ventures. He was promptly arrested for fraud, even though it Ruben was the one of the main suspects in the assault of Ricky Cumel the police could not find any evidence connecting him to the assault as he had a alibi at the time So the assault was blamed on local gangbangers. But all of the school staff knew that it was Ruben as he was the only kid smart enough who could that and had the reason to. But decided not to do anything as Ruben was usually a quiet and well behaved kid and knew what he did was wrong. Plus why punish Ruben did them a big favor by getting rid of Ricky and his uncle, (Ricky`s uncle would cut there pay far to much) But still they gave a warning to the students particularly in Ruben`s class. After that when ever the teachers and staff spoke of Ricky and Ruben fight they would always referred it as Caesar`s revenge and referred to Ruben as Black Caesar (named after the gangster in the Larry Cohen movie with the same name and because of the phrase of Veni, Vidi, vici found written Ricky`s forehead) of course some students overheard the conversations and the rumors began to spread and soon the nickname El monstruo negro became César el negro (Black Caesar) or simply Caesar a nickname that would follow Ruben for the rest of his life.

Middle school= High school years

Things did not go particularly well for the now name Caesar in middle school. As trouble seems to find Caesar where ever he goes. If it wasn`t somebody trying to start a fights with him to become top dog in the school it was one of the teachers belittling and criticizing him for minimal things. This gave him a low self esteem this led his grandfather and mother to signing up in a martal arts classes for the weekends. This did the trick and was now more happier than before. With his teacher a ex U.S marine he not only learn various martial arts like Guazabara, Kokobalé, Krav Maga and Brazilian jujitsu but learned military style discipline.

By 2011 he had lost all of the fat and won respect from the students and teachers a like by the end of the school year. At the start of the summer vacation Caesar`s aunt was offered him with permission from his mother to travel to difentent countries for summer vaction as she worked with the UN he agreed. In that summer he went to France with his aunt and helped stop a gun smuggling racket in Paris and travel to Flanders. Belgium where he met a friend of his aunt, Fanny Kiekeboes and her family where he saved her little brother Konstantinopel Kiekeboes from local punks. Caesar learned a understandable French and Dutch from that vacation.

  In 2013 he went to northeastern Nigeria where he witness a ambush done by the Boko haram and went to a Yoruba tribe village that help the Nigerian government in tracking Boko haram movements. In the same village where his aunt was having a meeting the local Oba (leader) he stopped a Boko haram assassin from killing the Oba by hitting the assassin with a tribal staff beating him until he turned blue. After arresting the assassin the Oba thank Caesar but looked at him in surprise then took him and his aunt inside is office and showed them a two wooden and bronze statuettes of Yoruba warriors that looked just like him. But with eyes that were one half blue one half copper. The Oba told him the story of Ogun and his twin sons and how they went in to the world to do good but promised to come back when they need it the most. The Oba told him that he fulfilled that promise, that night they had a party were he was gifted the statuettes and some of the weapons they made or captured from the Boko Haram.

In 2015 he visited the Republic of Ireland and leaned a lot about the Irish war of Independence and got a lot of books on the said war and the civil war in that same summer when Caesar went back to Puerto Rico he met Martin Perkins Diaz when he was at the Alvarez hacienda. Martin had run on the property because he was getting chased by a local bichote (e.i gangster) the father of the girl he was fooling around with. Caesar`s grandfather ( a no nonsense Vietnam veteran) having enough of said gangster bullying the kid chased him off with a illegal m16 rifle. After Caesar`s grandfather brought Martin inside they both recognized each other from school. They began talking and soon became best friends.

Soon in the summer of 2016 he went to the Philippines were (with the permission from his aunt and mother) he trained with the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) in firearms and small units tactics and Arnis as well in Guerrilla warfare and improvised weapons with the help of Dan Freeman a CIA agent. Caesar witness the mass exodus of refugees caused by the Battle of Marawi and took part in helping them relocate and got a locally made punyal knife as a gift from a blacksmith as a thank you for helping take his wounded brother to the hospital.

In 2017 Caesar was invited to Northern Ireland, Dublin to see the 2017 general election. There he join the Army Cadet Force. In his time in the cadets he sowed on a Puerto Rican flag patch on his uniform much to his Sargent chagrin. As well he had his first romantic relationship with a local girl name Anne Duffy but sadly the romance was cut short when she was killed in a car crash. The lost was to devastating for him and he left Northern Ireland after the funeral. He was still mourning a little when Hurricane Maria hit the island. Caesar never talked about the hurricane not only had the Hurricane destroyed his home town but his grandfather had died when they could not get him to a hospital after he had a heart attack. In the month after the death of Caesar,s grandfather the local drug gang that was terrorizing the mountain community was wipe out in what the news papers describe as a military style raid not so far from the Alvarez hacienda. The hurricane had changed Caesar when he came back to school he would still smile but had this bitterness in his eyes and had a scar running down his neck as if someone tried to slashed his neck open. The next year when high school started up again Caesar and Martin met Abigail and Michael Jones brother and sister pair from West Virginia. In 2019 for once he stayed in Puerto Rico for his summer vacation but had to get involved in the 2019 chatgate scandal protests to save his cousin after She found out some of the protesters were being paid to throw Molotov cocktails at police to cause chaos and were keeping her prisoner.

The Caugas incident (EDIT)

Caesar become involved in with the Caugas committee after taking part in the battle of Palmer Plaza. He helped with information involving the Irish war of independence. He met Aoife O`Hara a girl dressed as man fighting as a sniper in the 3rd West Cork. After he was identifying members the flying column and recognized her as a girl. He told Tom Barry he was going to introduce "him" to Anna Maria the SWAT team sniper and swiftly took her into city hall and shoved her to the elevator so quickly. That she thought she was being attacked so she pulled out a gun and almost shot him. After a very quick explanation, explaining he knew that she was a girl and he was not going to harm her she relaxed and they talked, and after Caesar introduced Aoife to Maria Anna they became good friends. He also one of the founding members of the Caugas Cadets a group of well trained and armed teens based off the Szare Szeregi (Gray Ranks) and lead ambushes and weapon raids on military and police.

Fun Facts

Like most of the Alvarez family he has the Alvarez gift a sort of sixth sense passed down from generation from generation with some quirks. His came before puberty but learn to control it. But prefers to use his smarts and strength part of this sixth sense make him see the paranormal so he is not bothered by it.

He his the many great grandson of Sebastian (Hercules) Alvarez.
