<3 Yes this exactly. I think, for the narrative to be well-served, Kakashi's gotta save Obito somehow. Obito has to make it through this war alive. Their connection is arguably one of the more intimate in the entire series. They share an eye; they see the world as a matched set. They have the potential to save each other, man! Obito saved Kakashi (both physically and emotionally), and Kakashi has a chance now to save Obito in those same ways.

Forgive my wild-arse hypothesizing, but I wonder if there was a way for some or all of Obito's spirit to reside within Kakashi should the Uchiha perish, a type of energy based coexistence or even a spiritual merger within Kakashi's body.  The audiovisual and possibly mental link they've been experiencing, alongside some of those "balance and bliss" comments that Madara was making last chapter spurred my line of thinking.  Kishi's enabled his characters to do some strange things.
