In my world for the ORAS story, May is Norman's daughter who became the Champion (she picked Treecko in my world), and Brendan is Birch's son and he was the one Lisia scouted in Slateport to become the next Contest Star. He does it both because contests are fun and because it lets him see a lot of different Pokemon, so he can study them, as Brendan wants to be a professor just like his dad. He of course chose Torchic, since he's the rival character if May is Norman's kid. Which to be honest, I didn't want to go with because I don't like Blaziken's design, but whatever, Sun Striker is a cool name.

I also tend to go with the AS story for them, not OR, since I played AS and I like Archie way more than Maxie.

Anyway, off topic there. I like to think Lisia and Brendan are really good friends, if not best friends (with May being Brendan's other best friend). I don't see them as a couple, though the picture may imply that, though I bet Lisia is a very touchy-feely and clingy kind of person.
