Hello from ProjectComment
I want to open up by saying just how amazing and stunning this piece is .
I think for me the best parts are both the sky and the water. I love how the colour changes from stage right to left, showing a wonderful sunset with the way the sun is turning the sky a bright yellow, but it hasn't quite reached the rest of it it yet due to the few remainders of light blue. I also like how you've conveyed the clouds in this piece. Just like on the actual sky, they don't seem to be part of it but rather a separate entity that simply coexists up there and the slight blur gives me the impression of them slowly moving across the sky, again, like the clouds in real life.
As I said, the water is also an amazing aspect for me. I like how naturally it mirrors the sky above with the colours of the sun set and the gradiation into the blue. The ripples are also very nicely done, giving the water the impression of the natural movement that would exist on it and I like how it darkens as it grows near the pier though I'll admit I do find myself wondering why this is the case. If the center of the pier is pointing at twelve on a clock face, then I get the impression the sun set is at nine or ten, leaving me to wonder what could be casting such a shadow on the water and pier if they range from five to seven. Then again this may be an aspect of the original photograph that inspired this piece and as I've rarely been to a pier myself, it could be a "natural" occurrence. As I said, logistics of it aside I do really like the effect it has on the piece.
To be honest my only real criticism for this piece is the length of the legs, and even then I do feel I'm reaching a little to find one. To me it looks like the legs a little too short when compared to the rest of the body and head. It's something I've been struggling with for a while but I've been told the legs should be around the same length as the head and torso combined (which I'm sure you're aware of). I've both looked at this piece and loosely measuring the two, and it looks to me like the legs are just shy of matching the head and shoulders in length, instead roughly coming in from around the neck to the end of the shirt. That being said, I am aware the stage left leg is bent and the stage right one may be further away from the camera due to the way it's shaded. I also get the feeling like the shirt's length goes past the hips to around half way down the backside so it could be more the shirt throwing off my perception as it makes the torso seem longer than it actually is. Additionally, like I said at the start of this paragraph I realise this is a stretch as well as generally this piece is breathtaking.
I love the theme of it as well. As a fan of Dragon Ball and western comics, the idea of being able to fly through the sky and go wherever you want is a concept I love. I really like how a photograph of a pier inspired you to create this picture, especially as the scenery in this picture gives me the impression the person is indeed at the sea rather than a large body of water so it makes it seem like the man in this piece has walked as far as he can and must now fly to continue his journey; love that idea. Going back to the darker waters it also gives me the impression of someone leaving a dark, negative environment for somewhere better, brighter and more hopeful. Perhaps I am reading too much into it but it was something that crossed my mind as I wrote the part about the darker water.

Interesting! I grew up in Japan but lived in UK for a while and LOVED it. Canada is wonderful, but I really miss the history.

I've always wanted to visit Japan. Some friends and family have been there recently and they all said it was amazing.
When you say "I really miss the history", in what sense? I'll admit I know little about Canada's history but do you mean in contrast to what Japan and the UK has?

I love the Tudor history, so it was epic to be in Hampton Court, thinking that Anne Boleyn walked the same place.

I like the perception of this piece. The lighting and overall composition makes it look very surreal. Beautiful piece, like it's pulling me into a dream~

Wow. This is one of those pieces where the words description are as vital as the drawing itself. Altogether they make a beautiful artwork. I love the tranquil colours you used.
I think one day I'll really float away to see all the beautiful places. I'll have to find companies haha.
