Description **prints are available on my Etsy shop!**

A commission from a friend for her daughter's room.

She requested something with a princess and fairies. I decided to do another take on Rapunzel. While fantasy is something I encourage, I want the girls of today (and yesterday) to know that's it ok to take action instead of waiting for your "prince."

So, after chopping off her own hair, with a small hobo bag leaned up against the door ready to go, Rapunzel saves herself.

(Yes, I realize braided hair would make a better rope, but I had so much fun drawing it as flowy and free.)

EDIT: sakura micron pigmas, faber-castell brush pens, copic sketch markers. forgot to list this. opps.

I just 'stumbled' on this. I absolutely love it! I showed it to my 8 year old daughter and she shouted 'Yeah! Go Rapunzel!'

Also got here through StumbleUpon.

I'd like to think females like you are the ones that inspire us guys to be better in turn.

Cheers and well done!

This reminds me of another retelling of Rapunzel I read about, the lead character who does the same thing with her hair...

Still, I love the fairy book style. She looks rather cool with short hair, actually ^__^

thanks! i prefer her with short hair, too.

i haven't heard of that retelling of Rapunzel before, but i'm not surprised. fairy tales have been reinvented so many times and in so many ways.

got a link to that version?

They did have that episode available online a while ago, but this is the next best thing I could find - BTW, this version is wittingly christened, "Shampoozel" :

Two things. One. Were you aware that this is in the feminism section of StumbleUpon? (Which is how I found it.) Congratulations!

Two. Based on this picture alone, I love you forever. Not only the Feminist Fairy Tale aspect of it, but how gorgeous it is! I love how the tower and the hair both jut out of frame, demonstrating how high up Rapunzel is. I also love the color scheme, which make it look like an enchanted evening, which was obviously the intent.

Awesome all around.

it is?! i had no idea. *is flattered*

thank you so much! it so makes my day to hear that someone has enjoyed a piece of my work.

i wasn't for sure how the colors would turn out when i started...i had to layer colors over colors, sort of like blending paint to get a new color. i'm most pleased with the glow on the fairies.

i like to break the panel. i know i'm not the only artists who does this, but it seemed right for this piece.

The concept is awesome but I also love the background work, and the style! I really enoy this piece (maybe that's why I aka Stitch bought it at Mega Con today!!!)
