Description
The What: An old picture of Sonia that I did quite a while back. Sonia Hedgehog is a character from the old television series, Sonic Underground, and is the one and only sister of the famous Sonic the Hedgehog and his brother Manic Hedgehog. She is acrobatically and vocally skilled and wears the magical necklace of a keyboard which transforms into a physical manifestation of said instrument, which she uses as a weapon. Sonia is an aristocrat, adopted by a rich family when she was thought to be an orphan, but united with her two long-lost brothers to travel Mobius in search of their Mother, the likewise long-lost queen, who has gone into hiding since their birth when the evil Dr. Robotnik came into power. She only appears n Sonic Underground, and is not in any of the popular comics, the anime, or the famous video games.

As any retro Sonia fan can see, made her proportionally correct (as far as Sonic goes), and did my best to give her more...Archie-Sonic realistic 'hair' using her spines, and streaking them with the TV-Show-color like Shadow's so it looked more like her when I was through. She's also got green eyes that match her speedy brother's, and is leaning up against a shoddy, half-baked, lazy name in the background.

The Why: I was in a Sonic-y mood one day and Sonic Underground was on Netflix and it occurred to me; everyone seems to like drawing their versions of Sonic's siblings. I should give it a go. The idea of putting my spin on it and trying to make it look a little more ArchieSonic styled was fun! Besides, once I settled on a style in which I'd like to draw her, I could do some Scourge/Sonia art.

The How: As usual, I started off on my sketchbook, then scanned, inked, and colored on my SketchApp via iPad 2. I used references in color from the cover of Archie Sonic the Hedgehog issue #197 and improvised on the pose. All references to her color and clothing were from screenshots of the TV show, of course!

The Problem: Same as ever. I know how I want it to look, but I suck at making it do so. "I made her, but her head is too big." The eyes. Still not satisfied with her flipped-over head spine, and I doubt any of you true Sonia fans will be, either. The inks were so carefully done and straight before I colored and ruined them, and then was too rushed to fix. The lines of her shading are wobbly. I wish her inks were thinner and less bulky. I don't know how I feel about having given her Amy's smaller female-hedgehog nose and eyebrows. Don't like the shoes...don't like the belt...don't like the name and it's coloring in the background. Someday I'll figure out how to finish my art in a professional, well-put-together way. Until that day comes, you'll have to suffer through these. Sorry!
