Why did you choose to make it black?

The art direction was "let's make all the new Zerg units black in SC2 so they stand out from the old units".

That reminds me, I remember seeing pics of the starcraft prototype from the 90s, and the Zerg Hydralisk was able to do both a melee attack with its claws, and the ranged attack, before they removed it. I always thought that the roach doing the same now was homage to that.

pretty good but the oversized spikes really take away from the realism.

Phill, can you comment on why the icon graphic for roach burrow movement and roach speed is flipped? Is there a design reason or has this been a bug since release? I find it very odd that the roach speed movement looks like tunneling claws and the tunneling claws upgrade looks like faster moving claws. It perplexes me why this hasn't been fixed in the game.

This unit was soo friggin powerful wiht its armour and regenerative capability, i remember a fully upgraded roach burrowed with regeneration upgrades nothing would be bale to kill it. I swear i made it fight an ultralisk on its own and it would repair to full after a kaiser blade atk. It sure as hell could destroy hydralisks with ease. Just burrow get health back and come back out, seems really overpowered!
