Cardiff Castle Keep - 2

This is the Norman period motte-and-bailey at Cardiff Castle, Wales, UK. The word motte refers to the central mound, not to be confused with the moat that surrounds it.

The Norman keep was built within the site of an earlier Roman fort. The Roman walls have since been largely rebuilt to create a much larger castle perimeter. Small portions of the original Roman stonework can still be seen above ground.

The picture was taken on an overcast day so is rather low contrast even with processing.  See also
