A group of young children wait beside the road with their teacher. Between Suzhou and Shanghai, October 1986. This was a period of change from the conformism of the Mao period to the more consumerist modern era. Note the contrast between the uniform-like clothes of the old man and the bright, individual clothes of the children. For a more recent picture showing how the children look similar but the adults' clothes have changed
