Description

I have a thought that mermaid is actually female human diver with tattoo that resembles to scales ,tail ,fin of fish.This practice is recorded in some ancient books.

This picture is inspired by scholar they-stare 's amazing story about mermaid's cage and St.Seperata monastery. It's also my tribute to this great prof/doc.

We can see In legends there are plenty of mermaids,but merman is very rare;why?I guess it is the advantage of females as divers;female has lower basal metabolic rate than male,that means they needs less oxygen so they can hold breath for longer time than male; and female also has higher body fat,more easily to keep afloat in water,and the body fat helps the body keeping normal temperature. So it’s quite naturally that female took the role of diving to collect food and other valuable objects for the tribe;this is another important part of my mermaid theory.And the females,tend to be alarmed by the presence of strangers,would very likely to dive deep to avoid possible harassment; this sighting of a woman swimming and diving with almost superhuman ability,combined with the fish-scale tattoo that covers the lower part of their body,would easily gives the outsiders an impression that they are half-woman,half-fish creatures.
