Description The process for the updated Slave Girl Sally:

I decided to update this one because, the last time around, my skills were just getting started…and because I finished the short story upon which this picture is based, “Slave Girls and Shining Knights."

The basic pose remained the same from the original, except that I gave her a ponytail and crown-piece, and I changed the position of her right hand (the one on her leg). I wanted to give a little bit more of a “clutching” feel to that one…and I really shouldn’t be cheating on my hands.

The first is the relatively clean pencil sketch; the second is the cleaned ink. (I used a fine line Prismacolor black marker.)

The third is where the colouring starts, with highlights and shades for the flesh; a total of six different colours, I think, from a canary yellow to a sienna brown. I didn’t go into the details of the clothes, here, since they are comparatively simple…and because there is just so much flesh to do.

The fourth is the flesh filled in, with a mix of beige peche and light peach. (I like to use light peach for most of my females’ main skin tone; don’t ask me why.) Even though the beige peche is a very nice tone for skin, I do color over everything with the light peach, to give the whole thing a more blended feel.

The last is the fully coloured version, though the main differences are the clothes and the hair. I didn’t play too much with the hair this time around (because I got lazy), but I rather like the way that the clothes came out, especially that red drape mantle.
