I made an updated version of this, some of you might have seen it for a bit because deviantart updated the file on its own 8) Luckily, I was able to retrieve the original from someone's favourites thank heavens. I do want to update this but the updated version I had made was, while more aesthetically pleasing tutorial-layout-wise, the actual pool drawing was way crappier. I need to take my time next time.

(.............. WHY DID THIS UPDATE FOR MY WATCHERS. WHAT THE FUCK)

Anyway, thank you for making this my most viewed and favourited deviation Hope it helps. Let me know if you need help.

I know this tutorial is old, but it helped me a lot. Still rusty with water, but you make it look so easy. Great tutorial! I use photoshop so my methods were a bit different. I also find it helpful to mask away shapes instead of erasing, in case I wanted to bring back the white. Thank you for making this.

Yeah, haha it really is outdated. I tried updating it about a year ago, but the effect didn't really come out the same. It's weird... whenever I try to make an example for the tutorial, it comes out wrong, but when I'm doing it for an actual piece of art, I get good results I'm glad it worked for you, if even just a little!

I actually saw this a few years ago but I didn't really use it then. Then last night, I needed to paint water and I searched through DA and found yours again. Something about your tutorial caught my attention against others. I like your method, although my results weren't as great as I wanted. But it's ok for my first try. Your tutorial definitely helped!

Thank you for the awesome tutorial! You have no idea how much this helped!

I was constantly using it as a reference as I was drawing some water for a background.

Thank YOU

I hope it works out all right because even *I* attempted it lately and failed One must make sure to do the marker part correctly. I'm so glad it's working out for you!

When using whites for the water effect, is there some sort of trick to make the shapes a bit more...water-like...?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Bootsii In reply to TheEpicFailedArtist [2016-06-05 07:21:25 +0000 UTC]

You mean for when you erase the white layer? I would say try your best to make solid oblong shapes instead of ones that are all over the place, you know? Like this-

Sorry it's so crappy LOL I don't have access to my tablet right now.

Aw man, sorry to hear that! I too tried it again myself and it didn't come out quite as I'd wanted. Weird, huh?

Thank you so much though! QvQ I have the newer version of this tutorial ready to be uploaded, so keep an eye on this deviation since I'll be changing the file (but I'll still save this version for people who like it better).

As a question- How would you do like an underwater view like the image in your second time trying?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Bootsii In reply to BlueKandii [2015-07-28 12:21:54 +0000 UTC]

AAA I'm really glad it helped, thanks a lot for letting me know though, it makes me so happy QvQ
Honestly, I can't even remember how I did it... I think I shaded it like this image of mine here
Β and then after adding the texture it's pretty much finishedΒ
Looking at it now, since the deviation is a little older, I can see all my mistakes and how I could've made it better but that's the gist of it Using a line tool to create long Vs and then blurring them, erasing them a little, et cetera.
