Description because it's literally the end of summer

I'm super happy with how this turned out, I wanted to portray something gentle with warm tones  The colors in the original look much better, but we all know how scanners can massacre absolutely everything -_-;

...and yeah, ignore the water (and crappy reflections) I was rushing lol

School starts in a week, so go make something of these last precious days

Tools: Staedtler pigment liners, Prismacolor pencils, soft pastels (for bg) white gel pen & acrylic paint
Time: 30 hours

Hello! I think this is a great piece of work, I love the vibrant colors in this artwork *^*
I think you are very creative and I like your idea for this, I think you successfully pulled off the summer feel and the background made the girl seems to be full of life!
However, I think you can improve on your proportions, her head seems to be too big for the body and her legs are too thin, almost similar to her arms. (I am also struggling with proportions haha but it's just a suggestion ^_^)
I know this piece was done in 2014 and your proportions has improved a little but I think this reference may help you!

Overall, good job on the coloring and composition! Can't wait to see how you grow as an artist ^^

hi ~~ this is a beautiful piece

in terms of critiques:
+ lovely color choices and blending, the whole piece gives a soft warm, at the same time refreshing feeling
+ clean lines and I love the details folds on her dress.
+ good job on the variation on sizes and position of the birds to give a feeling of depth.

what I think you could try:
- variation of size of the feathers, don't hesitate to make some noticeably bigger than her hand for example, to show even more depth/space in front of her.
- anatomy wise, her arm and face seem proportion to each other, as well as the chest down to the waist (in term of cartoon character or a young child, but for real woman, her rib case, not counting her boobs, would usually be bigger than her head ), but if you let her arms fall down, you will see that her abdomen is way too short. with arm straight down, the wrist would be around the same height as the bottom of the crotch. Also her leg, at any place (except for the ankle maybe) should be bigger than her arm, so the place where her leg is touching the water there looks a bit too skinny. NOTE that I'm saying this based on the fact that the view is directly in front and far enough that her body doesn't get affected by perspective.
- another tip, in general if you have lines (or implicit lines create by your object), that is parallel, or almost parallel to the edges of the canvas, things are less interesting and natural than pictures that have more curves and diagonal lines. so experiment with different angle and pose maybe

overall this is a lovely piece, I love the beautiful details and color, just need somes dynamic in terms of angles/composition and a little more anatomy.

Thank you for the insight! You've opened up my eyes to many things I realized I've blanked out on while drawing in general, I'll be sure to keep everything in mind next time!

you are welcome! and I forgot certain things when I'm painting as well, it's just a different process than looking at other people's pieces and analyzing. So taking breaks (to look at something else entirely) so you and refresh your perspective on your own painting would help too

I enjoy the use of colors in this piece and this type of look you have going in your piece is something I've always found alluring. I'll call it the prismacolor look for now haha I have no better way of describing it. As you said you rushed the water and reflections. When spending time on something like this rushing a certain area can destroy the entire piece sometimes. In this case it doesn't, but it's something you should keep in mind. The character can be amazing but if something is rushed and doesn't look good at all it will detract from the subject and become a focal point that people notice more. Unless it's due on a deadline it's perfectly fine to just throw it in the air and come back to it when you have more time. Other then that I feel the legs taper too much as they meet the water they become almost like sticks. As well the arm that goes off screen seems to be a bit long like it was extended just so it would fit off screen. In your initial drawings plan that out with a light proportions sketch so you avoid these types of things.
