Growing up on some of the roughest streets of Coruscant, experiencing the jackbooted tyranny of the Empire first hand, making a living as a pickpocket and thief, and now here I am in the glitz and glamour of Courscant's skylines, working in the highest office in the galaxy! I would call myself lucky but the Chancellor likes to smile and tell me that there's no such thing as luck." - Aleera Vaan

Aleera Vaan grew up an orphaned street urchin on Coruscant. Her parents had been arrested and executed for sedition against the Empire. Aleera grew up having to scrounge and scavenge, eventually becoming a known pickpocket and credit skimmer. Being an Arkanian Offshoot, a very rare if not endangered race, made it difficult for her to hide but she still managed to escape Imperial Authorities. She was only a girl when the news that Emperor Palpatine had been killed reached Coruscant and was among the cheering crowds as the statue of Palpatine was toppled in Imperial City Square.

After the Battle of Endor, she joined the localized Coruscant Rebellion forces, helping to prepare for the day when the Rebellion would come and liberate Coruscant. She personally assisted in stealing explosives, blasters, spare equipment, and eventually hotwiring a speeder. She personally had a fear of blasters and weapons, refusing to use them in her own defense but showed no hesitation in stealing them. When Coruscant was finally liberated and the Empire routed, Aleera resolved to live a more respectable life. When the New Republic Senate began to form, Aleera quietly stepped in to assist with their logistics. It was while helping to carry a few packages of blank datapads into one of the senators offices that she literally bumped into a motherly woman in regal dress under soldier escort.

The woman took pity on the girl and personally paid for her education. Aleera proved adept at civics and quickly learned about the new laws of the Galactic Republic. By the age of 18, Aleera had graduated and now had her sights set on serving as an aide with the Republic Senate. To her surprise, she was handpicked to serve under the same woman who had paid for her studies several years prior. It was then that she finally recognized the woman as none other than the inaugural Supreme Chancellor of the New Republic: Mon Mothma. Aleera worked as a lower clerk in the Chancellor's Office for several years, performing routine duties but always performing at her peak.

Finally Mon Mothma decided she would not seek reelection, choosing retirement after over a decade of faithful service to the New Republic. Aleera was quietly saddened as she'd hoped to continue serving under Mothma. Aleera was surprised when Mothma approached her personally and asked her to assist with Princess Leia Organa's campaign for Chancellor, a request that Aleera couldn't refuse. Aleera started out as a simple logistics manager but Leia took notice of her organization skills and asked her to become her personal aid. Aleera was more than honored and gladly accepted. Leia would later win the Chancellorship and Aleera was kept on as Leia's aid.

Aleera has dutifully remained at Leia's side, helping to sort out briefs and other data. Whenever the Chancellor leaves Coruscant, Aleera typically follows her, assisting her in keeping organized. She usually has to work with C-3PO but the two get along fine. Aleera has grown to be quite enamored with the former Rebel turned Jedi and Chancellor and has considered asking to remain on Leia's personal staff once Leia decides to leave office. Aleera is privately terrified of Leia's father, the former Darth Vader, especially given his recent return to his intimidating suit of armor.

It should be noted that the Arkanian Offshoots are still considered an endangered race. It was believed that they had died off millennia ago but it is believed that some managed to survive and fix some of their genetic shortcomings such as their weak immune system. It is estimated that less than 1 million Arkanian Offshoots populate the galaxy with only a small city on Arkania exclusive to their race.
