This is supposed to be an epilogue to sort of explain what happened to the Taiidan Republic after the events of the first Homeworld game & Homeworld Cataclysm/Emergence. The following is to be considered Non-Canon.

The Taiidan Empire...had fallen...
No one could have anticipated that the once powerful Taiidan Empire would've been toppled by a single fleet of exiles from a desert planet in the far reaches of space. Yet the moment that Emperor Riesstiu was killed with the destruction of his flagship in orbit over Hiigara, the Empire was left fractured in two. Those opposed to the Emperor's paranoid and tyrannical rule joined the Taiidan Rebellion and aided the Exiles in securing their newly reclaimed homeworld. Several of the Emperor's loyalists wanted to fight back against the Kushan to avenge their murdered leader, but the Galactic Council had stepped in, recognizing the Kushan's claim to Hiigara and had brought with them a massive fleet to protect the Exiles.

The Council mandated that all Taiidan were to leave Hiigara, barring any special exemptions granted by the Kushans. The Taiidan were given three months to accomplish this task. Many of the Taiidan understood and sympathized with the Exiles, most of the sympathizers having sided with the Rebellion and flocked to join the newly forming Taiidan Republic. However the Rebels opted to assist the Council in the arduous task of forcibly evicting the Imperialists that refused to leave, the open warfare that resulted from the Council's efforts delaying the Kushan's "landfall" to the surface by three more months. All parties acknowledged that this would definitely result in a state of constant war over Hiigara but the Council then mandated a five year prohibition of hostilities against the Kushan so as to give them the time they needed to settle and prepare an adequate defense and give them a fighting chance against any threats, the Council Fleets forming a massive blockade around the Hiigaran system.

Meanwhile the Taiidan Rebellion fled to the worlds that had proven sympathetic to the Exiles and began evicting the Imperialists from those regions, effectively carving the Empire up into three. The Council refused to intervene for either side as it was deemed an internal matter for the Taiidan. As such, the Taiidan Republic as it became known, was in a state of constant war with the Imperialists. Worse, the Turanic Raiders were lurking like vultures on the edges of their systems, waiting to strike against either side, although the Raiders seemed to favor the Imperialists to some extent. This period became known as the Taiidan Civil War. The Republicans had to adapt quickly to survive, using guerrilla tactics against the the stronger Imperialists. The Republicans would also become more pirate-like, stealing and commandeering ships from the Imperialists. Carriers were top priority captures as their production capabilities made them invaluable. Destroyers and Heavy Cruisers were also important as neither side initially possessed the ability to produce more...or so they thought...

The Imperialists had secretly stolen a second Taiidan Flagship that had been built as a backup to the Emperor's original and were starting to bring it towards the Imperialist capital world when the Republicans launched a wild effort to steal it for themselves. The mission to steal this flagship was a success, albeit costly, as many of the Republican's own destroyers were lost before the flagship could jump to hyperspace. The capture of the flagship was a much needed victory for the Republicans, allowing them to begin producing their own capital ships. However, capture priorities were still issued to Republican Commanders as the Imperialists still had a two-to-one advantage over the Republicans in terms of firepower. By the end of the five year armistice, the scales were still tipped against the Republicans but not quite as much. The increased focus on stealing ships also led to the development of the boarding pod technology to streamline boarding actions instead of having to defend salvage corvettes from other Imperialist forces.

The fledgling Taiidan Republic had other problems aside from military problems. Some of the systems under their control wanted independence after centuries if not millennia under Taiidan rule. The Republican leadership had to practically beg for some systems to remain as their departure would deprive the Republic of valuable resources, strategic locations, or other factors. This hadn't improved by the time the Hiigarans returned to the scene five years later and the Republicans had lost a lot of ground, with some systems going independent or aligning themselves with the Imperialists either willingly or by subjugation. A few systems even sought to join under the Hiigarans' banner and some were cautiously accepted provided that each citizen joined one of the Hiigaran Kiithid and acclimate to Hiigaran culture and customs. Still, the Republic was a formidable force and the reemergence of the Hiigarans following the five year armistice took much of the pressure off of the Republicans as the Hiigarans accepted an alliance with them to fight their common foe in the Imperialists.

The Taiidan Civil War became the conflict that embroiled the sector following the Homeworld War, but after the Hiigarans emerged from the armistice, it became somewhat one-sided. The Hiigarans were willing to fight beside the Republicans while the Imperialists only had the sporadic and unreliable support of the Turanic Raiders. The Republic was able to relax slightly as the Hiigarans brought their forces to bear against the Imperialists. The Imperialists, to the Republicans' mixed relief and frustration, seemed more interested in reclaiming Hiigara from the Hiigarans. Fortunately the Hiigarans were more than prepared to hold the line against the Taiidan. This gave the Republic some breathing room to get their feet under them, politically, economically, and militarily. For a time, the Republic entered a prosperous period that would last for about ten years after the Hiigarans joined the fight. Many of the systems that had once sought independence now sought reentry to the Republic. It was a boom time for the Republic.

Fifteen Years after the Exodus came to an end, the Republic came under siege by a new threat: the Beast. The Beast War equally devastated the Republicans and Hiigarans but was especially devastating to the Imperialists. The defeat over the Beast did result in several losses to the Republic, most notably the Nomad Moon project, an experimental defense station to fight the Imperialists. Fortunately the Imperialists were left crippled and roughly forty years after the fall of the empire, the Imperialists had been been reduced to small roving carrier fleets while the Republic prospered.

The Republic, by this time, had entered into a more permanent alliance with the Hiigarans, the two factions beginning a more relaxed and mutually beneficial arrangement. The Hiigarans acquired new technologies from the Taiidan, specifically more efficient engines, defense fields, and more efficient ion cannon technologies. The Republic also gave the Hiigarans the boarding pod technology that would go into the Hiigaran Marine Frigate. The two worked together to develop the pulsar technology that would go into the Hiigaran Pulsar Corvette and into the Hiigaran Battlecruiser's defenses. The Republic would similarly use the Pulsar weaponry on their ships. In exchange, the Republic got access to Hiigaran cryogenic technologies (used during the Exodus on the Cryo-trays), Swarmer drone technology and more efficient mining technology from the Somtaaw.

The Hiigarans and Republic remained strong allies and maintained secure trade routes between one another. When the Vaygr War began 115 years after the Homeworld War, the Republicans became boxed in by the Vaygr's fleets. The Vaygr had absorbed the remnants of the Taiidan Imperialists and the Turanic Raiders and although most of the pressure was on the Hiigarans, the Republicans were able to mount a more effective defense given the Vaygr's comparatively lax efforts to conquer the Republic. Despite this, several Hiigaran vessels would still provide assistance to the Republicans, sending the Hiigaran Battlecruiser Elson, a Sobani Red Battlecruiser, to the aid of the Republicans. This act of support from the Hiigarans only showed the strength of their alliance to the Taiidan who, despite their own inability to help the Hiigarans, were aided by the Hiigarans in the defense of the Republic worlds while also fighting to defend their own. The Republic still suffered significant setbacks though and after the war, their tacticians were in agreement that the Republic would've fallen had the Hiigarans not found Sajuuk and defeated Makaan and the Vaygr forces.

To the Taiidan who know the ancient histories of the Taiidan and Hiigaran peoples, many of them can't help but smile proudly at how to ancient enemies have now become the closest of allies. That the Hiigarans, once exiled by the Taiidan for crimes committed against the Taiidan by the Hiigarans, had become akin to brothers.

Ancient Enemies...now united.
