Biography: Ion Dragon is described as the titan that resided in the Philippines. Somehow responsible for the destruction of the USS Lawton Ship sinking (leaving Bill Randa as the only survivor to tell about it) about 200 miles from Hawaii in 1943.

in 1952, Keiko Miura and Lee Shaw traveled to the Philippines following the Ion Dragon's radiation trail, although Lee initially abandoned Keiko when Bill encountered them while searching for the dragon himself. Following myths that laid out the dragon's migration path and its correlation with its last radiation signature, the duo found the USS Lawton. Keiko and Bill explored inside the ship, but decided to turn back upon finding Bill's preserved crew mates and fresh nacre. The dragon attacked shortly after, smashing through the ship and trapping Bill under debris. Lee returned and helped free Bill so all three could escape through one of the holes the creature made. Before the ship could fall over, the Ion Dragon then burst from the ship and chased the group to the edge of the clearing the boat rested in, giving up once they reached the forest. Lee, Bill, and Keiko then watched as the Ion Dragon flew back to its ship and perched on it while roaring.

In 1962, Monarch organized an expedition into Axis Mundi, named Operation Hourglass, using an entrance located in the U.S. state of Kansas. In order to stabilize the entrance, a Gamma Ray Simulator was set up to lure a Titan. The simulator successfully attracted the Ion Dragon, which moved to pass through the portal until the simulator was turned off. This caused the Titan to lose interest and return to Axis Mundi, followed by a team which included Lee. The team was subsequently trapped in Axis Mundi as the portal imploded for unknown reasons. As they attempted to get an evacuation from the surface, the Ion Dragon attacked them, eating at least one member of the group before flying through the portal.

In 2015, Lee Shaw, May, Keiko, and Cate Randa had fallen into Axis Mundi and attempted to escape using the pod from Operation Hourglass and its Gamma Ray Simulator to lure a Titan from the surface through a portal to stabilize it. Upon the simulator's activation, it instead lured the nearby Ion Dragon that attempted to grab the Simulator. Another Titan was attracted by the simulator and began moving through the portal, but one of the Ion Dragon's fly-byes disconnected the pod from the Gamma Ray Simulator, which caused the approaching Titan to lose interest. Shaw left the pod and reconnected the simulator as the dragon landed and roared at Lee. Godzilla emerged from the portal and responded with his own roar. The Ion Dragon was quick to attack Godzilla, but found itself overwhelmed by the larger Titan, resulting in Godzilla tearing off one of its wings before throwing its body into the portal.
