This is wicked Ben. Haven't checked out your gallery in a while. I love You're last two pics of heavy, they're definetly the best you've done of him in my opinion. You've really refined the noir style

WOW. Thanks a bunch man. I really appreciate it. It's nice to know that you're diggin' Heavy, and that my style is not going unoticed. Thanks.

Thanks, buddy. I like him, too. He's really the one character I've created that I've worked up a whole history with.
I'm thinking of doing something like Dave Sim did with Cerebus and kinda tell this guy's life. The last issue culminating with his death.
Mine just won't be as long.

There aren't too many characters that you see on DA that you'd be that bothered about seeing on the shelves in a comic shop, but I'd be loving it if Heavy had his own title! All the best for getting him out there into the public eye!

Thanks, man. It's been about three years since I came up with him, and it will probably be another three or four before he gets on the shelves.
Think about this. Spawn sat in MacFarlane's portforlio before he saw the light of day. So, I think I'm kinda ahead of the curve.

Indeed...... and Spawn rules! So the sky's the limit for Heavy! The best of luck!

"Y'know, you're in my light."
Oh dear God. I love this picture so much, I think I'll take the coastliner up to San Francisco and marry it. There are so many little things I dig... the little head on the fowl symbol, Heavy's stubble, and that carpet... damn, that carpet is just tops.
You rule.

Thanks, man. I took a while to get done, and honestly, I think the carpet could've come out better.
But yeah, I'm really glad you dig it.
Don't thank me, thank the all-mighty pen tool.

Thanks. I was very hesitant to have the Fowl crouching in the window like that. I know that Dan wants to distance him from Batman as much as possible. But, I think it works, and I kinda like the joke.
Glad you like it man. I'm doing another one and I hope it comes out the same way.

BrattyBen In reply to scottygod [2007-06-06 05:28:32 +0000 UTC]
Kinda. I started it as a sketch with a perspective grid and loose placements for background objects. Then I scanned it in to the computer. Then I just used a bunch of layers,(too many probably) and used my polygon tool, and shapes tool, and pen tool to create all the shapes.
I traced over the main characters using different sized brushes and all that.
Then I deleted the sketch layer and left the rest behind.
It was a bit tedious, but a real learning experience no doubt.
I'm glad you like it.

Honestly it really only took about a couple of hours, maybe three. I don't know. when I'm in the zone, I lose track of time. But, it really didn't take much longer than any of my other pieces.
It was a bit more draining, since there was a bit more thinking involved. Once I get down a "routine" then I'll be able to zip right through them.

Hey, what if you used it for the bumper scenes with the Host character? The Host would be drawn normally, and the screen behind him would have the effect you employed here?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
BrattyBen In reply to GMGuity [2007-06-08 20:54:41 +0000 UTC]
I think that would work rather well. I'd hate to use this technique on the apartment scene, cause I'd rather draw that out to get in all that detail and nuance. It would come across rather sterile I think in the computer. But, I can use that for the scenes with the host. Should be kick butt.
I'm still working on the Cleaner, but, I'm finding a bit of free time here and there to layout BTTYRT.
