Description

I happily received the Alla Prima II by Richard Schmid to day. Now I am happily going through the images and beginning to read the text. I was introduced to this artist by Tim Schelbourne in his opaque media workshop and have fallen in love with his dynamic style. One quote that caught my eye was "Looseness is not a frivolous departure from control, quite the opposite! It arises from the freedom that comes with superb control. Therefore looseness should describe how a painting looks not necessarily how it was done." A point that  Karen Bonaker has helped me understand better in the past year. My goal for the last year has been to become more painterly and less linear. So today was another experiment with painting in a this new style, at least new to me. Was taking photographs for Al's photography class yesterday in Arches National Park, in the Windows area. If you look to the upper right-hand corner you can see tiny bit of blue sky peeking through an arch.
