Description Pen and ink on bristol board. For the past six months or so, I've been working on a freelance illustration project, a book about Fantasy Art. This is my black and white drawing for the cover illustration. Eventually I will color it, of course, and the publisher will put the titles on it and stuff. But before all that happens, I thought it would be fun to show off the line art.

Thanks. I haven't drawn many dragons, but I've drawn a LOT of dinosaurs... Just haven't posted many of them on DA. Perhaps I will eventually.

Maybe the style isn't my favourite, but the technique is oustanding! I especially like the way you did background (nice shadows on the pillars, btw.).

Wow. Stunning. Might I ask how long it took to pencil, then ink? I am just amazed by the amount of work you put into that, and every other piece you post here.

I don't know because I never really time myself when I'm doing this stuff. Also, it's not like I sit down with a blank piece of bristol board and work all the way through to the end, finishing the whole piece in one sitting. It's more like I do it step by step, mostly squeezing it in, around my 40-hour a week day job. If I wasn't working full-time at Disney right now I could have probably knocked this sucker out in two afternoons, but because of my full-time day-job schedule, I was only able to work on it on the weekends. So it got stretched out a lot longer than it should have. There was naturally a lot of starting and stopping, a lot of getting interrupted by Sunday around-the-house chores, my wife calling me to dinner, the usual stuff that comes up. Sorry that answer is so vague! But that's the truth.

Not vauge at all, in fact I'd say that was pretty detailed. I was curious as to how you worked - and it' a lot like the way I work, fitting in drawing time around every day life maintenance. My coworkers all kid me about walking down the sidewalk working in my sketchbook. You've got to fit in that 2 or 3 minutes of pencil time wherever you can. Thanks for the response!

By the way, I've been working on finishing up a couple of pieces for over a year now. I'll pencil, then ink, then do the colors a bit here and there. So in that respect your few weeks working on this makes some of my timelines look like Olympic marathons.

Very cool, although I don't like one thing about it. It looks like you mixed two different styles of characters in it. The more realistic, like the minotaur and cyclop, but the man in the middle for example looks too much like a cartoon, without much shading, and high contrast. Still, I would be happy if I could actually do a drawing like this!
And the minotaur looks really amazing.

Ah, this brings back memories of an incredibly brief D&D career.

The guy looks like he's ready for some serious slash & bash. But as for the magic wielding mistress, a line from Mystery Men comes to mine.

"Maybe you should put something on...before you fight evil, you know."

As always your line art is brilliant!!!
And as always i manage to find a story ..

I can just see the barbarian: "All we needed to do was come in, get the dragon shard, level up, score the gold and leave ... but noooooo you had to stop and pick the gems called 'gems of bad luck'!!!!"

And the you caught the girl just as she is about to turn around and say what woman say so often "WHAT?! Are you implying that this is all MY fault?!"

hehe i love how your work just allows me to add some story to it!!
